Electronic Arts' (EA) franchise title Tiger Woods PGA Tour is going to have a 2008 edition, at least that much is already a given. However, what fans don't know is that that the publisher/developer will be employing EA Sports' GamerNet.So what is GamerNet, you ask? It's actually a working title for a system driven by user-generated content and a points system that will "set a trend" for other EA products... or at least that's how one representative from the company explained it. While the employee went on to say that this system is going to be EA's future, he did clarify that not all EA Tiburon video games will have it.
In Tiger Woods 08, GamerNet can be used by players as an uploading station for their excellent individual shots so that other online players can view it as well. The games that will carry this system will have GamerNet in their in-game interface so they can browse and load files without interrupting gameplay.
Also, the representative explained that the new system aims to encourage out-of-game community competition by having a unique online point system. This point system, on the other hand, will let players vote for their favorite uploaded user-generated content. Aside from this, Tiger Woods 08 will also feature "Photo Game Face" (working title) that will allow players to upload their photos and create photo-realistic characters.
The above mentioned features will only appear on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08. The title will be released on other platforms such as PlayStation 2 (PS2), PlayStation Portable (PSP), DS, Wii, and Games for Windows (PC).
