EA to release new LOTR game, Dragon Age inbound |
Ó
The promise of an open-world roleplaying game across current-gen platforms in form of The White Council may have been put on hold by Electronic Arts, but according to the video game industry giant's latest financial report, a title based on Peter Jackson's interpretation of J.R.R. Tolkien's universe is in the works. This was the same description given to the game we haven't heard of since early last year.In the conference call, EA CEO John Riccitiello told analysts that another Lord of the Rings title is scheduled for EA's 2009 fiscal year. As GameSpot pointed out, it has been 10 months since EA renewed licenses for LOTR films, so it's likely that the mystery title is far in development.
On the other hand, BioWare's next grand RPG known only as Dragon Age is set to release on EA's next fiscal year. No release windows were given, so we're looking at a wait beginning April 1 this year and beyond. BioWare hasn't brought up Dragon Age in a long time, but it was explosive back in 2004. As most of us know, the spotlight recently focused on the intergalactic Mass Effect.
