EA still having problems with PS3 development

John Riccitiello - Image 1Electronic Arts, known for publishing its titles across various platforms, recently admitted in a conference call that the development cycle for the Sony PlayStation 3 still lags behind the Microsoft Xbox 360. EA CEO John Riccitiello told an analyst during the call:

ThereÂ’s no doubt that Electronic Arts, along with many other publishers, had some challenges essentially meeting the technical specifications effectively on the PlayStation 3

He explained that development with the PS3 as the leading platform, such as what the game industry giant did with the latest Burnout, causes no problems. However, he continued, "In circumstances where we either led with the Xbox 360 or ran parallel production, for the most part, weÂ’re still experiencing some delay on the PS3."

According to Riccitiello, the PS3 development environment is still more challenging. He was quoted as saying, “It’s probably only a third of a problem for us as it was [nine months ago]. But there still remains some catching up to do on the engineering side for the PS3.”

.

Well, EA Games sucks anyway, so this isn't nothing new.

wah wah wah..

SHUT UP EA. IF OTHER PEOPLE CAN DO IT, DON'T ***** ABOUT IT. MAN UP

Well...

He DID say that games developed on PS3 work fine, and he's right - Ratchet, Uncharted and Folklore are all just fine. Most cross-platform offerings suffer on the PS3, the only game I can think of without problems was The Darkness, but I don't own it, so maybe I missed the furore.

Still, even Bioshock needed a patch to work properly, so its not always the system's fault...

All hail Insomniac

the oracle is to be found there.

I dont think its ever the systems fault..

Its the developers that count (although they always blame it on stuff there just to lazy to do). Look at insomniac, they release two perfectly set up games with no frame rate, great online (resistance), and great graphics. If they can jam 60 players into there online the second time around for resistance 2 why the hell cant these other developers like EA make a decent game? Same goes for Ubisoft, they release a lot of games but most of them suck because they half bake it or dont even bake it at all. Put time and effort and maybe people will start releasing things like killzone 2.

...

no wonder...

the PS3 is a completely new system...

the X360 is more like a PC, just some minor hardware changes, therefore it's easier to develop, but that doesn't mean the X360 is better.

Sony could help them if they show them code examples and so on, but that's just my opinion.

You exaggerate the difference

There are numerous ways that BOTH the PS3 and 360 are like a PC.

The main issue/difficulty for the PS3 is the Cell processor, but other than that, most other areas of the console are as PC-like as the XBox 360 (some more so, some less, some the same).

by Silver-Tiger - 2008-02-01 04:34
....

ok, you could be right with that, but my main point is that Sony should help them develop better games, for example with scripts that reduce their work or show how to code good graphics etc....

My opinion is that Sony should assist these companies who have problems. This would lead to better results and better games. Companies wouldn't be so afraid of developing PS3 games and this of course would lead to more games.

I don't know really how to accomplish this, but

Hey, for this reason Sony has so much money, don't you agree?

WTF!?!?!?!?!

"had some challenges essentially meeting the technical specifications effectively on the PlayStation 3"

Yeah, see the word "HAD". It's called past tense. As in, IN THE PAST.

EA is full of idiots that can't get their act together.

exactly, if they haven't figured out the ps3 by now, just give up on it. your games suck anyway.

Assassin's Creed

Assassin's Creed is another game where the PS3 didn't suffer. Both look exactly the same. That comparison video was bull*****, set. The PS3 version doesn't look that washed out. I've played it on my HDTV and both look nearly identical if not exactly the same.

by ISOHaven - 2008-02-01 10:44
WTF!?!?!?!?!

I can second that! I've seen the two side by side and they look the same. However, I can't speak for gameplay (smoothness).

uhhh wrong...

both ps3 and 360 are equally pcs.. ps3 is MORE of a pc than 360 when you think about it.. it has to do with the cell architecture as compared to the 360's triple core power pc architecture... anyways, if other developers can code for ps3 well, then why can't EA...
