EA planning to take out pause option in Dead Space |
Ó
Imagine this: You're playing your favorite survival horror game. Your health bar is down to only a quarter, and your character is running helter-skelter away from rampaging zombies. You end up in a dead end. You need to replenish for the life bar to take some hits. What do you do? Odds are, you're going to pause the game and replenish your health. But you won't be able to do that in Electronic Arts' Dead Space (PS3, Xbox 360, PC).It's not really that a big deal, but EA is not only planning to disable inventory browsing while pausing; they're planning to take out the pause function entirely. Do take note of the word "planning." EA is currently unsure if the pause function, which was usable in the development version, will make it into the final game.
So if the pause function indeed gets taken out, that means that everything is still in real-time while browsing and using items in the inventory. In Dead Space, a hologram projected directly to your character's face serves as a directory menu, so you can see both your items and the zombies who are happily gnawing your limbs while you're frantically taking restorative items.
While it's going to make the action even more frantic and exciting, we're wondering what will happen if you're playing Dead Space and someone suddenly knocks on your door, or you suddenly feel the call of nature. It's a bit strange, and we're definitely going to keep tabs on this one so watch this space for more updates.

Doesn't sound all that great. What if the person has 2 go somewhere? well at least I can pause anything with in game xmb on my 360.So this doesn't affect me.
"in game XMB on my 360" funny, I always thought it was the Dashboard and that the PS3 and PSP are ones using the XMB.
I can't imagine they are going to take the pause function out entirely... that would just be stupid. They may make it so that you can't access any of your stuff when you pause, but if they got rid of pause completely I'm sure they would have an absolutely huge number of complaints.
In-game XMB? That the PS3 dude, not your beloved failbox.
Noob, the 360 has no XMB. XMB is only on Sony products, such as the PSX (not PS1), PSP, PS3, and even Sony-brand TVs like the Bravia.
of the most stupid comments ever... too much trolling on PS3 articles does that to an xbot, they're not smart enough to begin with but then they have to confuse themselves even more.
affect kingofdaberbz anyway... he's got xmb in his xbox.
Roflcopter at "In-Game Xmb on my xBucks 3FixMe" Epic Fail haha but seriously guys, i have a ps3 and when i press the home button it doesn't pause the game so that sucks, i hate it when my bro does it while i'm doing free-throws on nba 2k8, all it does is block the screen :(
This seems like a bad idea to me. At least let players pause the game and have the screen darken a little or have some kind of icon in the corner indicating the game is paused and remove inventory browsing and all that. No need to remove pausing completely. and even tho kindofdaberbz comment was kind of stupid, he was probably talking about the guide. When you press the guide button on the controller it automatically pauses any game and brings up the guide.
I hope they don't COMPLETELY remove the Pause system. Even if they just had the pause screen have nothing but "Paused" on it I'd be happy but not having being able to pause the game at all seems ridiculous Also, why does everyone start making fun of kingofdaberbz for one simple mistake? Not everyone is as 'hardcore' as us and some people mix things up, PLUS all he did was use a wrong term and we all knew what he meant. Way to make the PS3 community seem welcoming, jumping on him for messing up terms and using childish nicknames for the 360
He was trolling to begin with, he deserves no sympathy.
Wow, you fanboys are pathetic. "He said xmb lololol xbot!" It's pretty sad how you jump at the chance to flame like a coward. When you bring up the guide on the 360, it'll freeze the screen so this could be a work around. Don't be so harsh, fanboys.
You'll get use to it because they have nothing else to play and spend their time waiting to flame. It's sad really.
god go find something else to occupy ur time, xmb could mean xbox menu blade too, if i want it to....hey guess what maybe he has a ps3 also and just said xmb cause he sees it all the time...nope gotta assume hes pure filth cause he mighta made a typo and he owns an xbox.....god damnit you people need some better ***** to do on topic: good ole EA step 1 come up with idea step 2 press release it as something else entirely and piss off your fanbase.... im hoping what they mean is that it will be the old fashioned PAUSe and thats all you see, no menus nothing else, pause really is pause not menu/inventory, thats okay. we can just hit the xbox root menu and it locks everything till resume so perhaps they are counting on that, btw great trick for games which have cinematics that you cant pause just menu lock em :)
While browsing menus, slow down the game. Killzone liberation does this when u try to replenish health from a crate. Bullets and rocket can sometimes fly towards you at slow speeds yet is enough to giddy u up!
XMB.... Guide Blade... Who the hell cares? its just another item in a long list of things PS3 performs worse at than 360. But no, don't be mad at Sony because you bought the hype hook line and sinker, lets trash Micro$oft instead! (did you see what I did with the dollar sign? get it? I'm so smart!!!)
Everyone who commented in that first block of comments that started out with the "my 360's xmb..." is a complete f'n retard. You all chewed each other with complete f***ing garbage to back up you reason for doing so. You're the reason terms like "xbots" and alike exist and why there are console wars. - To set things straight, the XMB is Sony's own "Cross Media Bar" - an interfacing GUI that the PSP and the PS3 use as their systems main navigation tool. Currently it is not available while playing a game, you must quit out of the game to access it. **Now, to the article. I think the idea of striping control from the player in the form of a pause menu is going wrong. For whatever reason, we need to pause our games from one time or another and usually don't like to leave the gameworld to it's own devices while we're gone.
ok i have a ps3... and this is going to both the xbots and the ps3 fanboys... both of you STFU!! can't you just correct kingofdaberbz instead of flaming him!? and Illegal Machine, STFU!! not all ps3 owners flame 360 owners.. i'm a ps3 owner and i like the 360 too... i don't have one, and the failure rate is preventing me from wanting one, but the console overall is good... i just like ps3 better because i trust sony... we didn't buy an overhyped system, we just got the console that we prefered, so stfu... anyways, kingofdaberbz, XMB is a sony thing... its used in sony tvs, along with the psp, psx (not ps1), psp, and the ps3... it stands for Xross media bar (Xross is pronounced as Cross)... the menu system the 360 uses is the Dashboard... i prefer the Xross Media Bar because, in my opinion, i find it way more organized... we ps3 owners don't have the in game xmb yet, but we should be getting it soon...
It would make it much more interesting and heart-pounding, and it just makes sense. When you're being chased by a bear in RL you don't get to pause to take out your knife. But if you can't pause AT ALL it would annoying fast. CVG must've got something wrong, I can't see EA seriously thinking about removing pause entirely. What if there is some urgent thing you just can't ignore? I also like the fact that EA is changing things up and at least attempting to innovate. There are a lot of good, interesting, EA-developed (not just published) games out and coming out. EA is earning points with me, I actually think I don't hate them any more
it stands for Xross media bar (Xross is pronounced as Cross)?? Not flaming or anything, but I'm sure it actually stands for eXtensible Media Bar? Meaning it can be upgraded with the latest features. Xross is actually the name the public gave it, which has stuck...
