EA Montreal GM Tascan: Army of Two is not trying to make political statements |
Ó
Electronic Arts is currently enjoying the commercial success of video game Army of Two for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. This is despite of the several reported lag issues as well as the region-protected multiplayer features.
However, EA Montreal General Manager Alain Tascan revealed that aside from those issues, they are also currently experiencing problems due to the very nature of the game. Apparently, some are having problems with the title's subject matter.
If you are not familiar with the game, Army of Two, to be quite frank is reminiscent of the current day situation wherein American soldiers are brought to hotspot countries like Iraq and Afghanistan. Tascan explained:
We have some backlash in certain places in the world, or with certain types of people. Some people are reacting vividly. In Europe for instance, certain places feel the game is very pro-American.
But the thing I want to tell them is, "Do you know it's being done by French Canadians?"
Alain Tascan then went on to explain that Army of Two is not trying to make any political statements and that the game has been long under development before the recent happenings in Baghdad where 17 civilians were killed by operatives from private military firm Blackwater.
In the end, Tascan said that people can go search up the meaning of "private military contractors" to understand better the role these guys play in real-life war zones. He is also encouraging detractors to study as well the role of mercenaries.
"It's not the goal of the game to educate people, because it's entertainment. But if they learn a little bit more about it like we learned about it, it might open their eyes a little bit," said Tascan.
