EA gets DICE (the Battlefield 2 developers, not the dotted cubes) |
Ó
(Because we don't have an audio player, please hum the Battlefield theme as you read this.) Electronic Arts has added the Sweden-based Digital Illusions CE (DICE) dev team to its growing roster of in-house development studios. DICE is especially known for its Battlefield franchise, which appears (or will appear) on both the PC and consoles like the Xbox 360 and PS3. Says DICE CEO Patrick Soderlund, "Being part of the EA studio team is a great step forward that will help us continue to deliver new games and new franchises to DICE fans. We've been working very closely with EA for the past five years and this is a very natural step for us as we move into the next generation of gaming." As a result of the acquisition/merger, Soderlund now becomes EA's studio manager for the DICE team - more or less the same job, but the paychecks now come from Redwood.
Speaking of paychecks, if you happen to own stock in DICE, as a result of the EA-DICE merger, you will receive SEK 67.50 per share in DICE you own. That's about nine dollars and 22 cents in current exchange rates. This will be paid out on October 16. Who says video games are a waste of money? (Killjoy parents, that's who.)
(You can stop humming the Battlefield theme now.)

Cool. PS. First.
When are you kids gonna stop bragging about commenting first?
Oh, great, another studio doomed to slow creativity death at EA. Let's say goodbye to DICE. PS. Usually I'm very optimistic, but EA made me upset plenty of times lately.
