EA exec on motion-sensing for SKATE PS3 |
Ó
In a recent interview, Electronic Arts executive producer Jay Balmer offered his two cents regarding motion-sensing in games, saying that accuracy-wise, it was "messy.""If you're well-behaved with the controller, the motion control will be super cool. It won't just be steering; we're going to put a lot more into the motion controls than just steering," said Jay in light of EA's upcoming SKATE title for the PS3 and Xbox 360. It will be interesting to see how motion sensing will figure for the PS3 given the recently featured stunts for the game.
Jay further commented that while motion-sensor controls "were great" if the players were well-behaved, accuracy would be a mess if the player's actions were jumpy or jerky. "All of the sensors are active and all reporting information at the time, so we really have to find a way to filter what comes through on the motion controls so that everyone can have fun with them."
Despite these problems, however, Jay did say that he felt motion controls were generally a good idea, further saying that "It's just difficult because you don't always get what you expect."
The moral of the story? Keep yourself calm, and lay off the triple-espressos.

once and for all, the PS3 does not have motion sensing, it has tilt sensing. there is a huge difference. the wii has motion sensing, this means that it can read movements is all directions. Tilt sensing means that it can sense tilting in ONLY 6 directions.
