E3: Microsoft's Peter Moore talks about the Xbox 360 and the PS3 |
Ó
In a GamesIndustry.biz's E3 interview, head of Microsoft's interactive entertainment business division Peter Moore expressed his views on Microsoft's current position with the Xbox 360 and commented on Sony's as well.Moore discussed how Microsoft is increasing exposure of the 360, focusing not only on selling its consoles but its games as well. He was also firm in expressing that they have "no plans right now to make any pricing announcement whatsoever." Japan, however, recently got the news that it will not get a price cut.
When asked about the reported US$ 1 billion cost in repairing faulty 360 units, Moore replied on a more personal level, saying that it was a hard decision to make but it had to be done: "It was a tough day - a really tough day. But I like to think we did the right thing. Even then you get criticised for doing the right thing."
He was also asked if that huge amount would not allow Microsoft to afford a price cut. Moore gave a definite no: they are instead taking a reserve, saying this is what's right for the consumer, and that efforts are focused in making the console more cost-effective. "You don't say that's a billion dollars you could have given back to the consumer in pricing, no. That has to be done separately."
When the interview inevitably came to talking about Sony's price cut, Moore commented that it wasn't a price cut so much as adding more value for the same price, more like an added bonus. The cost of Sony's new 80gb model is still US$ 599. "[Sony] did say ... that their sales have doubled [since the price cut], so we shall see."
Recently, Konami and Nintendo made comments along the same lines as Moore. Chris Deering, founder of Sony's European Division (SCEE), also recently expressed his views about the PS3.

Lol, he started getting really uncomfortable in the end, you could tell
BTW: First, flame me!!!11!!one!!!
hahaha
I read that interview a few days ago... it was a good one
the questions were SOOO spot on :D:D
"GI: Was that live, the Call of Duty demo?
PM: Trust me, it was live.
GI: The football one wasn't though, was it? Madden?
PM: I'm not going to comment on that one.
GI: I think that answers it...
PM: But [Call of Duty] - absolutely, no doubt about that. Unequivocally live"
pfffffff...and what about the other 365 days before fixing the prob? the true is, they did it as a last resort so they wouldnt loose their fans...but dont worry, they "care " about their consumers....as soon as the media pops the cap on their secrets anyway....
Is this guy a politician? Every question thrown at him that bluntly dealt with something that didn't make his company/console shine, like Japanese sales, defective units, the deal with rockstar etc he just worked his words around it, ignored what the interviewer said and went off in his own ramble about what he thinks is happening... even though the interview is presenting clear facts.
Also.... his comment about Sony looking bad in his eyes for adding more content to the console is retarded! I mean come on! Who doesn't enjoy new stuff without a price increase. Also, the 60gb is down $100.... I have no f'n idea how he didn't see a price cut.
He's in his own delusional world where things are the way they are because he says they are... and if you disagree with him then you're wrong.
Lastly, the PS2 is still selling strong because of it's diverse amount of games. He says that "People complained we didn't have J-RPG's, Well we do now! Blue Dragon!" Come on man! One f'n RPG thrown into the usual garb of shooters and racers made by american teams for american audiences isn't going to matter! Just look to their hottest games (upcoming and current)... Is there any that don't fit into the 'built for americans' category? Halo anyone? Gears of war? PGR? PDZ? Halo wars? Too human? Forza? Lets see... shooter, shooter, racing, shooter, shooter, shooter, racing! hmm see a trend?
thats the funniest thing ive read in awhile! shooter, racing
lol
good work bro
You do realize all of those are very popular (or will be) in Europe right? The racers are even more popular in the UK than in America. It's not just Americans who like shooters and racers
It's because bill gates takes all the money.
halo wars is an RTS just because a games has guns in it doesnt make it a shooter you cant just say ooo look 90% of xbox games have guns in so theyre all the same especially not when games as different as halo wars and too human which is more of a sword fighting DMC type game are penned in to that same category. Its like saying 95% of sonys games all have people in so their games arent diverse.
also did u intentionally choose not to mention any of the other games we have already coming up and here already available seems like u just stuck the first few racers and shooters u thought of down and didnt look at the 360s library.
wtf does peter moore piss me off so badly
