E3 2009: One of three unannounced Square Enix games is 'Rapture', PS3 console exclusive |

Ó
A couple of days ago, Square Enix revealed that they will be showing three unannounced games at their E3 presentation. Today, we gathered word that one of these three games is actually an MMO title -- exclusively for the PlayStation 3, as far as the consoles are concerned at least.
The title? "Rapture". The game will supposedly be presented at the Square Enix press conference (yes, there will be one after all), at 11AM, Wednesday. Now take note of the phrase I used above: "as far as the consoles are concerned at least." That's because while the game will be coming out only for the PS3 console, it will also be coming out for the PC.
In case you cannot wait to see the media to be presented at Squeenix' presentation on Wednesday, you can try go ahead and see how Sony's presentation will go instead. We hear they will be unveiling it at their presscon too.
And there you have it, that's one of the three mystery titles from Square Enix. Two to go. Things are just getting hotter.

And he hates that games have to be thumbed down because they get multiplatform. (Final Fantasy XII, the new game of id Software, GTA4?)

that doesn't deny ps3 gamers the enjoyment of gta4, only the dlc, which is what exclusivity is all about regardless of format, i.e. deny those with other format the enjoyment of the game/content on their console.
hating a company for such reasons is...well...stupid imo.
"And he hates that games have to be thumbed down because they get multiplatform. (Final Fantasy XII, the new game of id Software, GTA4?)"
what do you mean by "thumbed down"? if you mean the ps3 gets a lower quality game because of the 360, then that's nonsense.

Some Devs HAVE cut PS3 games due to Multiplatformin g...as a matter of fact Rockstar was talking about PS3 exclusive on GTA4 in the beginning when they seen all 360's didnt have HDD's and used DVD's and not a larger format disc then talked about how Large they WANTED to make GTA4
SquearE themselfs even commented on how the FFXIII wont be chopped up due to multiplat since 360 version will come out a while after PS3
Lol had more time than expected, I honestly dont care I'm probobly going to get it anyway exclusive or not and I doubt it will come to 360 MS has thier own share of unannounced games and maybe MMO's

And who cares if MS gets the game? It doesn't affect gamers in any way just companies and both companies are impervious. Neither is going anywhere. MS will pay however much to get the game and then Sony will try harder to secure more exclusives in the future. When companies compete the gamers win keep that in mind. Sony will have to start trying harder and think different to get exclusives and we the gamers will get rewarded with the fruits of their efforts. MS buying off titles isn't the end of the world. Just strategy. Not to mention that the game might not be 360 compatible if its too large anyway.

no they havent. there's not a single dev who said they had to cut a game down because of the 360. and this is after all I've read as a ps3 only gamer who follows all the ps3 gaming news and interviews.
"then talked about how Large they WANTED to make GTA4"
no they didnt. yes rockstar spoke honestly about having issues with dvd on the 360, responding 'yep' to the question of whether having dvd and no hdd as standard causes limitations (well duh!). but as usual, the press and fanboys jumped to conclusions and claimed the 360 was limiting gta4, when that was not what the devs were saying.
it's funny how just one word (yep) can transform into all the things you and other gamers claim rockstar said about the 360.
look, the ps3 has less ram available for games compared to the 360, thats a limitation. ps3 has (arguably) a slightly less powerful gpu, thats a limitation. the 360 CPU has less power for computations, thats a limitation. multiformat game development is about getting around limitations of ALL the formats when creating a game, so please stop making out it's one sided (i.e. the 360 holding the ps3 back).
of course, most ignored the following comments in that same interview where he said "To be honest with you we haven't solved all those riddles yet... both have enormous challenges... both have their own particular pleasures and pains".

"SquearE themselfs even commented on how the FFXIII wont be chopped up due to multiplat since 360 version will come out a while after PS3"
they never spoke in such terms. they said they were focussing 100% on the ps3 version for japan and will start work on the 360 port AFTER the japanese ps3 version is complete. they said it will be on multple discs for the 360, but they can't say how many discs as yet.

anyway, i'm getting a bit tired of finding myself defending a console i don't need or want, simply because of the amount of rubbish spread about by fellow ps3 gamers.

I think it's you who needs to do your homework and produce the evidence. ;)
Look, I've got to go now, so I'll just type whatever comes to mind....
The issue here is not about exclusive games getting more out of the console. This has ALWAYS been true, we ALL know that. Multiformat games have to cope with limitations ACROSS ALL FORMATS, whereas exclusive games focus on one, and so can get around many limitations and get the most out of the hardware.
My point here is the distortion of the truth, where gamers are claiming it's all one sided, saying it's the 360 holding the ps3 back as if the ps3 has no limitations, which is nonsense.
For most multiformat games, as revealed in countless grouptests online, the 360 version tends to be slightly better than the PS3 version, with slightly better framerates and often the slight edge with the graphics. Now we can all give reasons why, such as the fact that the 360 is easier to develop on, that most developement leads on the 360 and so on, but even for games which lead on the ps3 first, the versions are on par (with a slight edge to the ps3 version).
So it's very clear that in terms of power, the 360 and PS3 are evenly matched, with perhaps the PS3 having the edge overall. So the biggest seperation between the two in not graphics power or general processing power, but capacity PER disc. The PS3 has more capacity per disc, but the Blu-ray drive is slower than the 360's, so the PS3 gets around it's slower speed by the use of HDD installs, the 360 gets around it's lower capacity by using multiple discs. Neither is perfect, but these solutions are adequate for most situtations.
So can a multiformat game potentially be better on the PS3 if it were a PS3 exclusive. Yes of course it can. But it could ALSO be better on the 360 if it were a 360 exclusive.
I'm happy with my PS3 games, exclusive and multiformat, so to me, claiming the multiformat PS3 games should be better and that they are being held back because of the 360 is just a dumb excuse used by those trying to convince themselves that the PS3 is better than they see it to be. It's time to face the facts guys.

Exclusivity screws the consumers, just look at EA and the NFL.

Regarding FFXIII, thanks because there's two points I'd like to make. From my understanding, this game is actually being developed on PCs (http://kotaku.com/5028961, read the update) and ported to PS3 and 360, and hence any graphical disparities, especially on the 360, is more likely down to the number of discs being used than anything else, where the less discs used, the more compression is needed, and therefore the lower the quality.
This leads me onto the second point, and a point I've raised before, where it shows that the PS3 version is NOT being effected by a 360 version as many gamers claim. Limitations, whatever they are, MOSTLY effect the system that has those limitations, they are not replicated across all formats for the sake of making them all look the same. This is a claim fanboys often use to try to explain why PS3 and 360 versions of multiformat games look the same, suggesting devs are deliberately reducing the quality of PS3 games to make both versions look the same. Hence my argument against this claim.
So thanks for the PLAY Magazine reference, since what you've said confirms what I've been saying. I haven't read the latest issue, so I'll try to do so soon. :)

They announced it for the PC, 360 and PS3 and they have not released any information to the contrary to that position. The tech demo they showed of the game in 2005 was shown on a xbox360.
Rapture is not a PS3 Exclusive (Its on PC that automatically makes it non-exclusive) And who ever wrote this article needs to check their sources better. Even Wikipedia's page on Rapture has more information then the article.
