The easy-to-acquire Blu-Ray version of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue from Polyphony Digital may still be the sure-shot for grabbing the high-definition racer much earlier, but Sony will be allowing those without access to retail packages to grab theirs fast as well. A recent report says that Gran Turismo 5 Prologue will be 1870 MB (1.87 GB) large when downloaded from the PlayStation Network, and downloading may be what the net code in firmware 2.17 was for.
The download packaged is sized that small at a cost: the download version of GT 5 Prologue will not come with the Blu-Ray disc version's movie content. Instead, Sony will be offering a separate download for those movies from Gran Turismo TV, like a movie content-on-demand gig.
But for the download version, the option to download the optional media assets only come at the point where they should be played. Thus, the game's intro movie is readily downloadable, while the game will ask if you'd like to download the Event movies after the conclusion of each event.
Look for GT 5 Prologue's new Quick Tune features for configuring cars in-between races and more when it hits Sony's PlayStation Network on March 27, 2008 or when it hits shelves by March 28, 2008 - all in Europe. The US version is expected to drop at April 17, 2008 for both versions of the game.
