Doom - Image 1This just in, id Software has started production on Doom 4 and has opened hiring for the game's producer, lead designer, lead animator, and more.

This is a pretty big announcement considering what the Doom franchise means to gamers. Even id Software CEO Todd Hollenshead took some time to comment about the game and its importance to their company as well.

Doom is part of the id Software DNA and demands the greatest talent and brightest minds in the industry to bring the next installment of our flagship franchise to Earth. It's critical for id Software to have the best creative minds in-house to develop games that meet the standards synonymous with our titles.

While details on this game have been rather sketchy, rumor has it that the game will be going cross-platform using their new proprietary engine called Tech 5 which, according to the company's lead artist Kevin Cloud, is running great:

You don't even have to worry about how it's going to look on PS3 or 360. Right now we've got it running cross-platform running 60 hertz, and it looks really good.In terms of what artists are available to achieve--it's something you have to see for yourself. I can say this, but you still won't get it until you see it.

# cross-platform as in..NarooN 2008-05-07 08:45
PS3 vs 360 players? I'd love to see a PS360 clan vs. PC gamers. Obviously I'd be on team PS360. :D

There's another game that id software is working on called Severity. It is a multiplayer focused FPS with PS3 x 360 X PC gamers all playing with/against each other.

Somehow my comment was negative. I guess no one can answer questions anymore either.

i believe they mean cross-platform in the traditional sense, like gta4 is cross-platform.

they would have to break with XBL tradition and use :gasp: an actual server to host games, or force the highly insecure P2P method on all platforms...

# no thats not what they meanAces In The Palm 2008-05-08 06:22
because thats not doom dammit

they mean there will be very little to no need tweak the engine to suit different consoles

meaning less conflicts during crossplatform multiplayer

even if im not 100% right i dont care

I WANT DOOM4 DAMMIT

I was on doom3 for months

very few games do that to me

one game i want remade for todays graphics is goldeneye. they wouldnt even have to add any missions or anything make it exactly the same, i dont care. as long as it looked todays standards id buy it at full price and play it again.

cranked up the N64 last november and got stuck into for a while and it still holds as a great game.

also original doom levels in doom3's engine would rock

classic doom by flaming sheep is ok but it only has knee deep in the dead episode (shareware maps)

and doom2 4 doom3 was ok, but a little buggy.

id like to see a full IDSoftware doom1 and 2 classic levels remake. my 264cents worth

*REDEMPTION DENIED*
