Don Mattrick of MS: 360 holiday success, GTA 4 2008's Halo 3, more |
Ó
Don Mattrick, who replaced Peter Moore as senior VP of Microsoft Interactive Entertainment, recently expressed in an interview how he was confident of the Xbox 360's success for the holiday season, the Xbox 360's shelf life, and Grand Theft Auto 4.
Mattrick believes that the Xbox 360's edge of the competition is it's price-per-value:
On a price-per-value basis, I think we win…relative to Sony and Nintendo. Of course, I’m biased, given the role that I’m in, but if I really think about it using my consumer instincts and the experience that I’ve had, this is the best blend of performance, price, online and games – by far.
He also adds that the Xbox 360 has the potential to have a similar shelf life as the PlayStation 3 and the PS2 because of the additional resources, third-party support, retail support and consumer support as opposed to the previous Xbox generation.
He also lines up Grand Theft Auto 4 (PS3, Xbox 360) as the Halo 3 equivalent for next year in terms of revenue, saying that:
WeÂ’re excited about Grand Theft Auto 4 not only because itÂ’s a great title, but thereÂ’s multi-play and downloadable content that consumers will only be able to get on 360. ThatÂ’s a huge win. Arguably that title has the potential to be the Halo [3] equivalent in calendar year 2008 in terms of number-one title revenue unit.

GTA 4 is expected to be the next halo 3 in terms of revenue just because of its DLC? Well, in order to be so successful the DLC will have to be even more "a must have" than the full game and remember, GTA4 is coming to the PS3 so it too may have good revenue is sales due to GTA4. And to think this chap expects the Xbox360 to have a shelf life of the PS2 is to be honest very predictable and optimistic.
there are more 360s out there then ps3s... The 360 version, i'm willing to bet, will sell more then the ps3 version. For those who own both consoles...getting the vanilla version, a la ps3, or the 360 version with DLC.....I think they'd chose the 360 version.
How is it that you think because the PS3 version doesn't have DLC that it's vanilla? How old are you 12? Rockstar knows it's in their best interest to produce a full game without DLC to get people to buy it. No PS3 owner is going to buy a 360 for DLC for one game! Well, maybe you but no one over the age of 18. And just because I think you don't have a clue, PS3 games also get the same DLC that 360 games do with their multiplatform games too. I have both systems but I buy ZERO DLC only because it only encourages developers to half ass a game and then patch it later or cut content purposely to get additional sales later.
GTA 4 is a system seller. There are millions of people that will buy a system just for this game. GTA SA sold something like 20 million(!) copies. I think it was smart of MS to buy DLC exclusivity for the title. If you have the choice of extra content why wouldn't you choose that version? I know that PS3 owners will get jealous when the DLC does come out on the 360. I would if it was the other way around. I'm not sure how MS can promote the extra 2 DLC episodes advantage to the main stream market though. Will have to wait and see. DLC isn't as evil as you make it sound. Take a game like Two Worlds. It was released with poor framerate and glitches and all that crap. It sold like poo, so selling DLC isn't going to help the game at all. It's dead. Developers realize that selling the game to masses is the only way to built an install base where it's possible to make DLC. People don't buy DLC for crap games. I just finished playing Mass Effect and loved that game. Too me that was easily worth every penny of paid for it and more. I hope they release DLC for it in 6 months so I can relive some of that experience with brand new content. So why shouldn't I reward the developer for producing this brand new content for me to play? And when it comes down to it, it's up to me whether I purchase the content.
Jin wu...i'm 12? Because I don't give a crap about the system, but what is given to me for the game? Sorry...but you can be a sony fanboy... While I own all the console and buy the multi-platform games that are better on whichever console(there are good multi-platform ps3 titles too) You need to grow up Jin Wu and not attack everyone who goes against the HOLY ps3.
don't start start with your 360 crusade... anyway what Vecha said it's true... if I have both system and visually speaking is the same and the 360 version will have an extra content I will choose that one... is just common sense... is just the way you all said it that make Jin Wu picky...
I totally agree with you, DLC is awesome. So many games I loved in the past, I wished they would never end, today with DLC, you have the possibility of a great game eventually getting extra missions, and more playability without having to play the entire game over again and having a new experience within that universe.
there was no reason for him to start a ***** fight and call me 12. I simply stated that GTA4 may benefit the 360 more because there are more 360s and the supposed DLC coming for the 360 could benefit the console. I didn't say, 'THE 360 KICKS THE PS3s ASS" That would be what a 12 year old would say. The next time he argues...he should try to be a little more mature.
if I go to the store and one brand of milk costs just the same as another but one comes with free chocolate sauce... i'm getting the one with chocolate sauce ;D
The PS3 will also get DLC or extra content as well. And since we don't know enough about it, we shouldn't automatically say the 360 version will be the better one. While yes Paying that amount for DLC should get some good content but its not like PS3 won't have anything as well. Now if you have said since we know the DLC for 360 and nothing on the PS3 we could lean towards that and i agree. Jin Wu i agree with you but considering i have a PS3 and planing on getting a 360 before Ninja Gaiden 2 comes out i may check up and see he DLC for it. Who knows maybe i'll buy it for both systems. And im 21, so just letting you know that there are a few people who would buy both versions. If you like GTA like i do why not. Also Vecha Yes there are more 360's out there but the PS3 could very well sell alot to match the sales of 360's before GTA is released. Thats a possible out come, and im not trying to sound like a Fanboy here, just saying its possible since the heavy hitters are coming for Sony in 08 and we should see some big sales. Not to mention when MGS4 comes out GTA should be right around there expect some big sales for PS3 then. Its also worth noting that most people who wanted a 360 already has one(besides me and others) But i don't see crazy console sales happening for the 360 when DMC4 and GTA4 gets released.
I guess you are right stealth...didn't think of that.
