DoA's Itagaki: Heavenly Sword is "half-assed" |
Now that we all know what Dead or Alive creator Tomonobu Itagaki thinks of Tekken, here comes another news tidbit that tells us what he thinks of another noteworthy video game: Ninja Theory's Heavenly Sword. Itagaki-san offers a few choice words about the epic game:
I've never played a good game where the developers put a big icon of the button you're supposed to press onscreen... I look at Heavenly Sword and it seems really half-assed, because it's asking you to do all these button-timing sequences but you are not getting much payoff from it.
While it's not as succinct as his "Tekken sucks" quote, it delivers quite the same blow. Ninja Theory's Kyle Shubel, however, has a few words of his own to shove at Itagaki's way:
My response to Mr. Itagaki would be that the intent of the Hero sequences is to empower the player to experience events that would be nearly impossible to play in a natural platforming state... for example, making the player run down ropes, leaping from rope to rope as they're being cut from underneath you, all while dodging other objects — that would be a frustrating experience to 99 percent of our users if we were to force them to do that manually.
With most gaming developers and producers giving bland regards and salutations to each other, it certainly is refreshing to find them turning to Hollywood from time to time to liven up the gaming news. Maybe we'll get to see some of them in future Jerry Springer shows.

Off the top of my head,
Indigo Prophecy = LOADS of awards. Button presses appear on screen for nearly all of the game.
Tomb Raider Legend = Hailed as a resurrection of the Tomb Raider Franchise. One of the best Tomb Raider games that have been made...

That sounds like it would be really fun to do in regular gameplay. Too bad the developers half assed it and had you doing timed button presses to a non-interactive video instead. Since the PS3 is more of a video player, I guess the game is showing off all the PS3 can do though.
God of War was a good game, but why couldn't they at least try to offer anything new? Isn't this supposed to show off what next gen is all about? Wow prettier graphics and a hot chick main character. Doesn't hide the fact you're still playing a PS2 grade game.
Resident Evil 4?
STFU, really, did you like God of War? I would assume so since nearly everyone did. This game > God of War. Why? A WAY WAY more advanced fighting system, with motion control in the fight, and aftertouch, a 15 HOUR game, I could really go on and on. To believe you are convinced of the status of PS3 simply by the fact that 1/10th of the demo had buttons presses, shows your lack of "Common Sense"

Like everyone else, he is entitled to an opinion. I dont think that Tomonobu Itagakis opinion on games like Tekken and a demo of heavenly sword will affect a lot of PS3 owners decision, not my decison anyway.

Since the PS3 is last right now on console sales Tomonobu Itagaki will not be all that nice to the PS3 as he has hitorically preferred consoles who are currently on the top of the Market.

Actually, running down a rope and jumping off when they're about to be cut actually sounds pretty damn lame. Kinda sounds like Megaman 1, Gutsman stage. Anyone who enjoyed doing those gay 'jump off platform in time or die a horrible death' things are retarded.

i cant believe he's actually criticizing tekken and heavenly sword. this is all coming from a guy that designed doa, the most shallow fighting game ever. i totally agree with the other posts saying re4 included button pressing and i especially like that one interactive cutscene where you needed to tap buttons to avoid a boulder rolling you over and having to jump to the side. it's much better than just watching the character do it himself. this guy should just keep making his half-assed games for his beloved horny 360 fans and shut the fuuck up.
The XBOX 360 plays HD movies right out of the box as long as you have a hard drive. Ever heard of the movie download service?
That's assuming you didn't do the smart thing and get satelite TV service with a HD recorder. It's not like you can see any movie you want in blu gay anyway. I'm loving recording FREE HD movies.

Oh, by the way, anything you can record in your HD Recorder, you CANNOT OWN, only rent for a while. And, as for the 360's download service, after download, it only allows you to keep it for 14 days, and once you've started playback, the download expires within 24 hours. So are you saying an HD experience that you can't own for more than 24 hours is better than an HD experience that you can own and keep with you?

There's so few movies I want to see released on blu ray or HD-DVD, getting any player at this point is stupid. When I go into wal-mart and see the blu ray selection, there's about 10 movies to choose from. Does that make the PS3's blu ray player worth it?
I wouldn't doubt this game is half assed, because most PS3 games are. Nothing but PS2 games with better graphics. Take a game like motorstorm. I've played so many superior PS2 off road racing games, just with lower graphical quality. They can do split screen 2 player racing on launch PS2 games (even running at the same framerate) but not motorstorm for some reason. Explain that.

I played dead or alive beach volleyball and that game is half assed specially those mini games.
There are air combos in this game you stupid dumb piece of S.H.I.T you just have to know how to do them. Check out the Gamespot forums for this game there's a thread there that explains how to do them.

The spin-off DoA games (Beach Volleyball and the like) don't even need mentioning, everyone with a brain knows those games suck hard. If you're that into breasts just go to the beach and stare, no need to waste $60 and endure the torture that is DoA Volleyball gameplay.

Im no fan of Tekken, Virtua Fighter, Soul Caliber or any fighting games to be honest, but Im sure as *****, they're all better than DoA in every way.
As for Ninja Gaiden.. I downloaded the demo and deleted it without finishing it. I played the Heavenly Sword demo many times and loved it every time.
