For the longest time, we have been hearing all sorts of rumors flying left and right, all of which have claimed that the another exclusive title for the PS3 has also gone to the Xbox 360. Now, we're dealing with one of those again, and the title in question this time around is the latest installment to the Capcom platformer, Devil May Cry 4.
Normally, it would have been easy to shrug off such a rumor. Now if you're somebody who thinks highly of the Playstation Magazine (well, to each his own, eh?), it may not be so simple to shrug this one off. As it turns out, the latest issue of PSM supposedly carries an article which reports that Capcom does indeed plan to make the game available on the Xbox 360. But, as we all know, PSM is in no way connected to Sony and so it'd be best to take this "news" with a grain of salt.
Well, considering that an earlier DMC title which was released on the PS2 has already been ported to the PC, perhaps the possibility may not be so slim. Also, on another note, this whole thing reminds us of yet another rumor which concerns Microsoft, Capcom, and a lot of money. Could all these be connected?

OPM or PSM? First off OPM was shut down and second, PSM isn't exactly trustworthy, they've come up with some really wacky rumors that never came true.

God, I really really really REALLY love being an Xbox360 owner. It seems like every day when I check this site there is some awesome good news for us (360 fans). I bet the sony peeps are hurting right now. Oh, and 1st poster is in some serious denial.

If you did just the most basic research...you would find that if you open up a PSM magazine that it clearly states that they are 100% INDEPENDENT of Sony. PSM stand for (P)lay(S)tation (M)agazine. OPM which does not exist anymore stands for (O)fficial (P)laystation (M)agazine.

PSM has false claims in every issue that I have ever read. I have read every issue that they have ever produced. I was a manager at Funcoland, Babbages, and GameStop so I was able to read them at my leasure.

Assassins Creed was never an exclusive for PS3, it was simply announced for PS3 first. Same for Unreal Tournament. Only announced for PS3 and PC first, not said to be exclusoves. there's a difference.
As for this, well all they have is the line from the fron page under rumor. Who knows what the article is about? It may as well try to dismiss the rumor.

PS3 games developement is [too] expensive and devs say it's power is nothing like Sony promised. 360 has [10 times] the installed base of the PS3, and developers want to make money on their games. So more and more PS3 exclusives will be coming to the 360. Deal with it.

Since you're mentioning GTA, they knew PS3 exclusivity would be bad news for them, afterall, why waste all that time and money on a second rate computer only! So they make sure they can make the game profitable for them, and to do so requires a 360 version.
More and more developers are realizing this for themselves now and don't want to suffer the fate of Insomniac with Resistance, which had sales [well below] expectations.
Look at Square Enix. After all the hype about the [White Engine], they announce they'll be using the [Unreal Engine] for future games. UE3 games can be easily ported from one platform to another, so obviously, even Square Enix realize the [mistake of PS3 exclusivity].
So FFXIII may be the last Sony exclusive game from Square Enix, if they're still using the White Engine for the game. If the game is now on UE3, say goodbye exclusive and hello 360!
Expect to see the end of exclusive games from Square Enix in future. Sad but true.

GTA went multiplat because there was a timed limited in their contract. They did it for money. Pure and simple.
Insomniac / Resistance is a launch title. Which means, that early on, there is not a large base to sell the games to. This will not be the same as the months go by. Hell, the European launch hasn't even happened yet. So, that means, that an additional 1 MIL consoles for Europe initially in addition to the 4-5 MIL consoles already on the market by March. So, 3rd party devs will make games for THAT market, not the launch market. Understand? And then there's 2007's xmas as well.
Next, Square Enix, licensed the UTE form Epic. This is NOT for FF. It's for other games not named.
Now, it's fair to say that most 3rd party devs will not go exclusive due to costs. And this goes for 360 as well. Do you think that Capcom or Ubisoft likes the idea of making games for 360 exclusively when they KNOW that those games will not sell very well Japan or do average in Europe (fans in Europe don't show the same radical advocacy for an American company (MS) as they do here in the US -- in fact the rest of the world hates Microsoft's business tactics; ask the EU). If you think that making games exclusive for the PS3 is a "bad idea." You need to look no further than how BAD that idea would be if they locked themselves into the 360 for the 3-4 years. Not wise! That's worse than making games just for the PS3. This might not be evident now. But it will be when the PS3 starts to catch up to the 360. And this is from a console that costs $600 and has only a few games to its library. Imagine when more games come, some exclusive, some not. And games start looking better because the devs have more time to learn the hardware.

everybody needs to recognize that if SONY loses DMC4 exclusivity it will be very disappointing for PS3 users. DMC, FF, MGS are associated with Playstation and M$ is putting all their money trying to make them multiplat as they did with GTA IV, at least, to keep SONY getting any advantage. At the same time SONY is getting a lot of titles, the ones that matter most, coming from PC and x360 camp, FEAR, GRAW2, Oblivion IV, Splinter Cell:DA. Remember, M$ has fundamentally shooters, and their best game IS a shooter published by themselves. M$ has nothing relevant to lose in terms of third party franchise. The SONY camp is totally different and it has a lot of different and unique IPs, obviously x360 gamers are anxious to get them :D.
As someone above said, most third party titles will become multiplat for adequate profit, that is because PS3 has until now the weaker installed base , surely that will change in the future and SONY will be able to preserve their exclusive third party support more easily. Meanwhile first party news IPs can make the difference knowing that SONY is putting a lot of effort in MotorStorm, HS, Lair and surely a lot of other titles that are being developed in house right now, White knight Stories comes to mind.

Xbox360 had very little games at launch too. Look at the Playstation past lineup and you will see that Xbox has less games overall then Playstation. Give it time and you will see.

3rd party titles can be expected to go Multiplatform - games are costing more than your average movie to make - they need profit.
This generation - It's the battle of the First Party studios...Sony and Microsoft to go head to head in the Software department and honestly - not one of them has the advantage .. they are both brilliant. Sony however has much a much broader first party franchises.
Companies like Namco, have recenly announced a joint first party studio with Sony ... Sony use the Playstation branding for exclusivity .. Microsoft use money ... at the end of the day, Sony will have the better titles if that keeps on happening.. look at Rare they were AAA+++ on Nintendo now they are sub B Grade.
I am actually quite pleased that alot of games are going multi-platform it gives other gamers a similar experience on their console of choice, whether it be coz they can't afford more than one or simply have yet to decide on expanding their experiences to ADDITIONAL hardware.
First Party Titles are the titles are the games that matter - they are exclusive and no amount of money can port them -- Sorry M$ no God of War 3 for u!

Sony has more than just 4 big franchies. They have the larger 1st party development studios out all of the console makers. They create NEW CONTENT also. Look it up. CeCiL said it best. MS buys people off. Sony does not. They only reason that it seems as though that plan is working for MS is beacuse they had a 1 year headstart without ANY NEXTGEN console on the market besides their own. Each and every day, the PS3 numbers will grow. And it will be harder and harder for any 3rd party dev to ignore. All MS and their fans are trying to do is cry wolf trying to get people to not buy the PS3. Well, that tactic will fail.
Temporarily losing 3rd paries I've already addressed above. You guys might want to read it. Hint, Even Mark Rein, the great Sony antagonist from Gears of War, said that he's looking forward to making games for the PS3 and that it will NOT FAIL! HELLO!

Lots of you guys seem to think ps3 will fail because developers can't deal with cell. That may be true about some developers now, but do you really think developers will just give up on it in the long run? It's playstation. That name has very often equated to money. So yea, possible slow times for Sony for now in terms of games, but there are lots of developers that will invest the time and money into using ps3 to its fullest. Ps3 will get more exclusives as the customer base grows and devs become familiar with cell. Not because ps3 is superior, but because x360 and ps3 are very different machines.Devs will work with whatever they want to work with.
DMC on the 360? Who cares? 360's great. more for everyone! Do I regret paying *gasp* 0 for a console that has a bunch of titles available for the 360? Why would I? How else play Lair, Tekken, FFXIII, Heavenly Sword, MGS4, Killzone2, and whatever other ps3 exclusives to come. Can play my ps and ps2 games too so 0 extra isn't much of a sacrifice.

And who cares about awards? When people think of an impressive 360 game, they talk about Gears, not Oblivion. GOW came out in november and it's already sold 3 million+, and it managed to get in the top 10 in Japan, despite few 360s there. How well did Oblivion do!
The Elder Scrolls is a PC game series which came to the 360, and now the PS3, so it's no lost to the 360. But the DMC series has [always] been on Sony consoles, so [if] the 360 gets DMC4, then that will be a lost to Sony.
Sales of ALL consoles are going down day by day, this always happens after Christmas, since Christmas is when most of the sales are made. After Christmas, there are less console sales and less game releases, so you're the one dreaming if you think it's only the 360.
When anybody points out the sale of the 360 in Japan they miss one BIG point, Gears of War is now about number 7 in their chart so this can mean only one of Two things. -
1. MS have now sold enough 360s in Japan and they can now only get stronger otherwise how else could Gears be in their top 10 just like Blue dragon was 2 weeks ago?.

2. If they havent sold enough 360s there then surly it is a waste of their time anyway as it just goes to show that if they are breaking into their top 10 with few machines then software sales must be poor there anyway so why bother with Japan full stop?.
not accurate man the reason developers are making games for 360 in droves is because of the installed base microsoft knew in advanced this was going to happen that is why they launched a year early, I say the smartest move microsoft ever made since they entered the videogame industry and gears can be done on playstation 3 and metal gear can be done on xbox it is just a matter of different development approaches because of the difference in computer architecture.

For one MGS4 cant run on the Xbox360 because its not powerful enough and theres not enough sapce on 1 DVD. So get your facts straight, to get MGS4 on the Xbox360 would require 4+ DVDs.
Also GoW will run on the PS3, because the superior UT3 runs on the PS3 identical to a PC, Epic stated that long ago. Epic likes the PS3 because its powerful, same thing hasn't been said about the Xbox360.
Also the next splinter cell is multi platform, they have never made it exclusive.

The Xbox360 is looking like it will do worse then the original Xbox. Look at the sales. It took them over 1 year to sell 10 million. The xbox sold 10 million in alot less time and ended up selling 24 million by the end of its life.
The PS3 has been selling faster then the PS2 has. I wouldn't be surprised if by the end of this year, Sony PS3 will sell more overall then the Xbox360.

The 360 sold at a lower rate than the XBox initially because of 360 shortages, but it didn't take long for the 360 to overtake the XBox in terms of sales. A fact conveniently overlooked by Vietone time and time again.

Epic have said the same about the 360. In fact, they said they were surprised because it was more powerful than they expected.
Both consoles are of similar power, and numerous devs have said so. The concensus view is that the 360 has a slightly better GPU and the PS3 a slightly better CPU, so overall, they're about equal.

By 'long ago' I assume you mean around E3 2005, since I read something similar at the time. But in case you haven't noticed, the PC has improved significantly since then, and so it will be the PC which offers superior performance for UT3.
To Broken_Window: Kojima did say DVD is not a problem for him recently, but he didn't say the 360 was more powerful. He rarely ever talks about consoles in this way, so I know he wouldn't have said that, not even for the PS3.

that many of the now exclusive Capcom titles for the X360 will come to PS3 eventually, Im talking about Lost Planet and Dead Rising. Both games, as earlier Oblivion IV, are very very appreciated by x360 fans, I hope they understand when Capcom make its move, that the lost of exclusive third party titles works both ways. Very likely too is a PS3 Bioshock with additional content. Dont forget x360 fans, your console of choice is barely alive in japan and after PS3 launch in Europe it will have a harder time there too. Porting x360 3rd party titles to PS3 will become more an more attractive for publishers.

Okay, seriously. This is getting ridiculous with your arguments. Why don't you Xbox 360 fanboys get back to your hole and the PS3 fanboys can get back to their hole and discuss. Give the PS3 time will you? The PS3 has recently been launched and is having a bit of trouble getting off the ground due to a few major factors.
1) High cost game development. Developing the technology for games on the PS3 costs the PS3 a high amount of cash, something not a lot of game developing companies has.
2) Lack of great titles. The Xbox 360 had much worse titles during launch. However, there wasn't opposition to take the market resulting in a much easier time for developing the games and preparing for the actual war between the consoles. Games win console wars, not hardware.
Other then that, I have great faith in the PS3 that it will succeed in the end and became a powerful player in the gaming industry.
On the side note, let me remind you the contrasts between the consoles.
Processor: PS3 is much more powerful then the Xbox.
Disks: The Blu-ray can hold 25gb on a single layer, 50gb on duel layers, and the largest blu ray currently produced holds 200gb.
Graphics: The Xbox 360 has a better pixel shader then the PS3. But one of the SPUs is dedicated for graphics boosting the GPU, possibly to a level greater then the Xbox's.
Ram: Ram is a major player in games for in the "next generation". The PS3's ram is split into two 256mb sticks which can prove to be a disability compared to the Xbox's single 512mb stick.
Despite the Xbox's ups and downs, I believe that the cell will ultimately push the PS3 above the Xbox because it will allow more complex AI, etc.

I believe the two consoles are equal. Every dev who works with both consoles has said, when asked about the power of the consoles, that the 360's GPU is slightly better and the PS3's CPU is *slightly* better.
So to say the PS3 is much more powerful is nonsense when EVERY dev working on both (including John Carmack) says the PS3 is SLIGHTLY more powerful.
Yes Blu-ray holds more, but that doesn't mean better games, and it costs to fill that space with game content, so it doesn't come for free. If Blu-ray was 500GB, you will not suddenly have 500GB games. Expect most of that space on Blu-ray to be filled with 'bells and whistles', such as PCM audio, HD video, 'The making of...' documentaries etc.
Regarding floating-point power. Some-one correctly said that at worse the 360 is 50% as powerful as Cell in the PS3, and at best, 75% as good. So if one of the SPUs are dedicated for graphics, then that's one less SPU for the game itself, leaving just 4 SPUs. So whilst this may bring the graphics up to the 360 level, then 5 SPUs brings the floating-point performance down to slightly above the 360's level. And all this on top of the fact that the 360 has 3 cores for running game code compared to one on the PS3!
I believe it's all these issues which have multi-platform devs saying there's not much difference between the 360 and PS3.
On RAM, I agree, but we'll have to wait and see.
Remember, this was a console Sony claimed was twice as powerful as the 360 at E3 2005, and yet it's clearly not THAT powerful. It's a great console, but it will never blow away the 360 even when given time.

There are jerky games on all consoles. You should judge the game(s), not blame the console. Some will be jerky, some will be smooth.
Resistance has a smooth and steady frame rate (from what I've read), and I'm sure PS3 gamers can name other games too.

sorry about the double post and please disregard my above post about playstation 3 being less powerful than xbox 360 it doesn't make sense, in my opinion neither system is showing any real advantage over the other time will tell but i think both system will always be equal.
