Did Gran Turismo HD downloads overload PlayStation Network servers?

Come on! How do you expect me to get my GTD with all this traffic! There's a story going about that (a) Gran Turismo HD seems to have been released onto the PlayStation Store earlier than planned, and (b) the traffic of people who flocked to the store to download it was so heavy, it's currently knocked out the PlayStation Network. It's the subject of a thread in the official PlayStation forums where people are moaning about error code 8002A280.

No wonder we've been having a few hangups checking for demos this morning - "Hey, free GTHD, let's check it out... Oh crap, why won't this (garbled dialogue) sign on?!?!?!"

People who've called up customer service, assistance, help, or whatever Sony calls it, say that they've been told that the network has been too busy as of late. Combine that with reports of a rather early Christmas gift from Polyphony Digital and the presumption is KABOOM, and we quote, "Everyone, their dog, grandmother, and little sister is downloading that at the moment. Sounds like they need a few thousand more servers."

Let's hope the traffic clears up within the day. Maybe they can swing by a store and pick up a few thousand more servers.

» Downloads.... ouch

» I remember when this happened to MS

It happens to everyone at some point early in their online store life....

With GTHD released as a demo - it no fuggin wonder it overloaded... goes down in history as most obvious way to overload a server in dictionary

» PS3 Download Time

My PS3 demos ALWAYS download slow. It's not like I have a slow internet connection either, I'm running cable, around 5 MBPS, but every single demo I download takes around 3-5 hours to complete. I started downloading the GT HD demo over 2 hours ago and it's only at 45%. Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions?

» wow

amzing, only 500,000 ps3's in the damn world and their servers are crashing, yet sony is expecting like 100 million ps3's to be in the world in a couple of years

fire the IT department

» PS3 Store

I can't get in either must be the new shipments of PS3's in stores today!

by Vincent - 2006-12-23 16:40
» umm

Its because they dont have that many servers for the ps3 YET. When people buy more ps3's they'll add more and more servers as the months go by.

by I know - 2006-12-23 16:46
» I couldnt either

I couldnt get in and i didnt even know about this but i was playing and i kept getting that same error code, so i put that down, played red steel until i died, and went back 5 min ago and i got a message when trying to acess my accound management-Error we are restoring servers or something anyway i rebooted and i was able to get on to see the GT HD trailer on my 46" 1080p plasma i thought of two word

» yay

well i just tried to sign on and i was able to get in, but the download is going slower than usual seing as they usually finish in 5-10 minutes, oh well i bet it's worth the wait , currently at 55%

You guys that are saying that they're overloading the servers, they're not. It seems as if Sony is using a certain amount of allotted slots where once you get access to the store, after you finish any 1 download and install it, it disconnects you and allows someone else to take your slot. They're not stupid. If they let everyone try to access at the same time, NO ONE would get it because the server would crash. But the error you get now is NOT a crash, but a computer generated. If you still can't get in, just keep trying. As soon as someone finishes their download, they'll let you in. I'm not sure how many slots there are, but there must be alot since I was able to get in after only trying maybe 5 times. Probably 1,000 users at a time.

» lol

What did u expect from $onys crappy server

by Vietone - 2006-12-23 18:32
» By the time GTHD was out

Sony had already sold over a million PS3s

by Kutibah - 2006-12-23 18:57
» lol

would you bashers please just shut up? this has NOTHING to do with servers. Not even freaking NASA's data base can hold half a million connections at once.

Hell, don't even get me started. If HALO was ever released for free on Xbox Live I guarantee their servers would be down as well.

Why is this even still up? This server downtime only lasted an hour or so, and it wasn't even down, it was only allowing a certain number of users at a time....

by adriokor - 2006-12-23 19:52
» Don't need a game untill GT is realeased lol
