Dev status update: Final Fantasy XIII nearing completion, no plans for DLC yet

Over at Japan, Dengeki magazine got a bit of a status update on Final Fantasy XIII (PS3, Xbox 360) straight from Square Enix. So, curious of how everything's going for this baby? Well, don't worry, they reassure everyone that the game's still on track for a release this year. (Wait, how come I feel like I've heard that before? Umm... anyway, moving on...)

Here's the deal. Let's do bullet points, shall we?

Story and Scenario is 100% done.
Graphics around 80% complete.
Battle system currently still being refined.
All screens and videos anyone's ever seen so far have been taken from previous builds of the Crystal Tools engine. They've advanced further along and we can probably even expect more from the finished product.
When asked about DLC, the devs responded that there are no current plans of making add-on content available. As always, since we have the "current" clause in that statement, this indicates that it's not altogether impossible.

While I'm not all that concerned about DLC right now - I just hope they focus on getting the game released first. And then we can talk DLC. I'm also hoping we get to see more footage of FF13 in a more advanced build of their engine. I wonder how far along they really are. Because even from what I've seen so far, it's already looking pretty sweet.

it's ok to keep some games up to date... but I dun think a game like FF needs DLC. I wonder if they mean these stats are for the Jap ver? I bet so. Meaning, once that's done they start the localizing for the NA versions and the 360 version. Are we english folks gonna see FFXII this year? More importantly... what about VSXIII?

is GREAT if they're like patches or big extra features (like Burnout Paradise or the GTA expansion)

but it's BAD if it's used as a way to grab money and they work on it alongside the original game or something .. I don't want to hear about optional purchases as the game is being developed, and like .. purchasing an extra costume for a couple characters for 3 bucks is such a ripoff, I remember when some games had loads of alternate costumes for their characters already on the disc!

I am sick and TIRED about hearing all the "little" updates about FF games. ITS STUPID just release the *****ing game already!!

I have to admit about the progress report mentioned in this article for it has been the best update I have read about FF 13 so far...

I am not even sure I have read all of them. All I know is that its getting on my nerves.

So thank you QJ for making a SHORT and SWEET update about FF
