PS3 Digital TV Tuner - Image 1It's been confirmed that Sony will be revealing new information during the Leipzig Games Convention about the announced PlayStation 3 TV tuner that was revealed earlier this month. Earlier details were given by Warwick Light of Sony Computer Entertainment New Zealand that the TV Tuner may be available early next year.

There's not really much to go on other than the promise of "some clarification on the digital TV tuner," but it would be pretty sweet if they'll make the PlayStation 3 function like TiVo.

The clarifications announced in the coming GC 2007 may be targetted at specific release dates and countries or areas where the service will be available in.

undoubtedly good news for ps3 owners but the reality is most of us already have devices that can already do that. nontheless it seems like an interesting feature and i cant wait to get it. heres hoping the ps3 sales will get a boost from this.

» great

My lcd monitor w/ 1080p doesn't have a tv tuner, it would be nice to be able to connect my digital cable line into a ps3 and use software on the ps3 as a tivo like device, otherwise I'll just use a usb tv tuner on my laptop or something.

Wow your system has a 33% failure rate and only has Halo 3 to boost sales, the PS3 has many great titles and has 0.2% failure rate.

Maybe if MS made a better system you would have an argument.

Now on topic, This is awesome, By the time it comes out the PS3 will be steam rolling through the competition. All thanks to the great games coming.

» well...

I was under the impression that the pc, which most ps3 owners probably have, was getting Bioshock as well. Now I can enjoy my ps3 exlcusives and your x-box exclusives too!

» cool

are they adding this in a FW update? along with in-game XMB access? unless they update to 1.9.1 or something :(. will they be able to do this in a FW update? they will probably have a peripheral :(

about in-game XMB access, i dont think we'll have the FULL XMB, maybe just like what xbox 360 has (guide). but still, better than the 4 options we currently have. (Assign Controller slot, Quit Game, Turn off Controller, Turn Off Console.)

by hexoDAT64 - 2007-08-18 03:46
» agreed

I totally agree. I think that a "mini" xmb would be nice with some settings, music, and friends. Maybe even add users to change saves in game.

» tv tuner :D

I've got a question. I've already got "digital television" coming in to my home, and the provider offers a little box for about 50 bucks so that we can actually use it. With this digital trv tuner for PS3, does anyone see a reason why i can't tune into the digital television?

by nuffsaid - 2007-08-18 06:37
» sorry im confused

if ur television has digitalTV built it, you dont need a digital box, If your getting a Hi-Def box, you will need it for your TV.

I live in the UK, so it might be different, but in the UK we use a RF cable (round pin) for tvs which is called an analog connection and the digital box coverts it into digital and another RF or scart cable takes the info to your TV. HD boxes use DVI/component/hdmi(true digital), if the HDbox had 2x hdmi then you can plug the ps3 in 1 and the other goes to ur tv.

If you want to know if the digital box can run tv content to the ps3, it depends what ports will be on the tuner. I my case the ps3s tvtuner will have to have an RF port on it so I can run digital content.

» I give up

after having my 360 crap out on me alot!...I am finally convinced that the PS3 is the superior console...btw, Bioshock....waaayyy overated, the graphics are ok but not even close to killzone 2 or gears of war. Just my two cents.
