The devs of Demon's Souls, From Software, stated last month that they're not planning on getting the ball rolling for a sequel. As if that's not enough to cause agitation for fans, the PS3 servers for the game is set to shut down come March of 2011. Because of this, an online petition has popped up online.

It is obviously the hopes of this petition for publisher Atlus USA to reconsider and continue their support for the online service beyond the aforementioned time window. Said the petition:

"Dear Atlus, Please extend the online serverse for the game Demon's Souls currently sold for the PlayStation 3 system. The servers are due to be shutdown in March 2011. We, the gamers, feel that the online aspect to the game ins not only unique in it's implementation but involves an important and dynamic component to the game as well. Please extend the servie for as long as reasonably possible."

If you agree with this letter of petition and would like to join in on the crusade for Demon's Souls' servers getting extended, head over to the link below and get your signature on it. There are 161 signatures as of press time.

I understand it's not feasible to mantain servers for long, specially after some time, when the game has stopped selling as much (or at all).

But it would be nice to give players the chance to run private servers. Too bad few companies give public details on how to setup up one for their games, when they no longer support it.

Here's hope the community will be able to do it (via xlink kai, for example), as afaik it will become legal to do some reverse engeneering when they abandon the game.

Id sign that. Demon's Souls is a great game that needs more attention. Bottom line give us an online extension or work on the darn sequel. Also DLC would be most appreciated

Was this petition written in crayon? Because it looks like a frustrated child wrote it. However I do agree - that seems to be the only thing unique about this game is the only interaction. Though it seems too narrow of a gimmick to get me to buy it.

It's getting sad in the gaming world when internet and servers are relied on to keep these works of art alive. I have yet to buy Demon's Souls but was hoping to in the future. Why let art die? The time and effort for developers to create these experiences are easier to forget by not allowing it to go on. Some sequels to games are not enough to give people the full experience. I am a person who invests in games to keep for a long time and to share the experiences with future family and friends. There has to be some way to keep these great games going. This is just another reminder why I miss the old days of gaming.

atlus was baught by another dev company. so i dont know if this will change their mind, since they are in tight budget and had to lay off a few people. but anyway, anything is worth a try to keep this game going for a long time.. demon souls is the best rpg game of all time, and best of all its on the ps3 only. so support it!
