Dead Space writer says you need to listen to the dialogue to complete the game |
Ó

It's not surprising for a writer to want people to read his work, but what Dead Space (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3) writer Antony Johnston said in an interview with PSW magazine could give gamers more incentive to listen closely during the game's cutscenes.
"If you want to find out the mysteries of the game, you need to listen to the dialogue" said Johnson, who wrote the game's story as well as the Image comics. "But more than that, you actually need to listen to it so you can complete the game."
What, will we be quizzed on it afterwards? Kinda unlikely, but it would be easy to hide a password in the game's dialogue. Most gamers do pay attention to the cutscenes anyway. Games are just too expensive these days to not try and get the most out of every purchase.
Personally, I only skip cutscenes during subsequent playthroughs of a game I already finished. What about you guys? What's your take on cutscenes?

Lots of the time I'll skip cutscenes if I figure the mission will let me know what I missed (Saints Row is a prime example)
It also depends if they're done well, I remember playing The Getaway ages ago and watching all the cutscenes thinking 'this is like a movie that has a bit of a game in on it' and I actually liked it. But we all know some games just handle cutscenes really bad as far as directing, animations and voice acting go
As long as the story isnt boring then Id listen...actually as long as the gameplay is good and not faulty then id actually buy the game then do what i said on the first sentence
Please let this be good i just finished Siren and want something that will really scare the crap out of me
mgs 4 watch every cutscene
assassins creed ....... I WISH I COULD'VE SKIPPED EM
Here's hoping there are subtitles... don't know about the rest of you but I rarely turn up the TV loud enough to understand what they are saying (over the noise of the 360, at any rate.)
My TV in the other room drowns out the 360's sound. It got old two years ago buddy, stop beating a long dead horse.
I don't think this will be a problem for dead space.
Master Chef is on his period!
Resident evil 4 teaches you to watch cut scenes.
Sometimes you literally need them to save your life.
what an exmaple of a game not to listen to subtitles
although honestly i only played th first level of the first resident evil, DID NOT LIKE IT
