In case you haven't picked up your copies yet, and you come across an offer to buy a second-hand copy, you would want to check if the PSN key has been activation already.
If yes, then you know that that game copy is no good for you anymore. It's not hard to imagine that piracy is one of the reasons why Sony opted to go this route. Somehow, thought, it quite doesn't sit well.
I mean, come on. Even iTunes allow up to five computers to host your account, right?

It's just greed on the part of the game companies. They know that you'll eventually get tired of playing a game, but they don't want you to be able to sell it. Basically you're paying full retail price for what amounts to a rental since, once you've gotten tired of playing the game, it's no longer any use to you. The used game industry is a great way to offset this effect: if you like a game enough that you'll want to play it again in the future, you can keep it, but if you're done with it, you can sell it and recoup some of your money so you can spend it on the next game... or on nachos or something.

Every MMO I have ever played did the same thing, the key registers create an account.

It does suck thou that if I choose to play the game on a second account on my PS3, that I would also have to pay for an online subscription that way. I believe that's what they are getting at in this whole topic.
Similar to PSN+ which you have to pay separately for each account you want it on.
I for one will NOT buy this game for the fact that the PSN was said to be FREE. Why pay someone else to use there servers? If I wanted that I'll just go buy an X-Box.

It's an MMO much like WoW and as such warrants a monthly fee.
PSN is still free. This game doesn't use PSN past the point of logging into your account and storing trophies, everything else is done through the DC Universe dedicated servers.
You buy the game new and you get a license code, you create an account with it and can use the account [and disc] to play the game on ANY PS3 you own.

I myself bought a second hand copy of the game, and at the point where you are prompted to enter the unlock key, it rejects it and you can't proceed.
However, I then went into the Playstation Store and paid for a DCUO subscription.
Went back into the game, and it let me continue and I am now playing the game quite happily!
