David Jaffe - Image 1David Jaffe, creator of big hitters such as Twisted Metal and God of War who's known as someone not shy of sharing his opinions, believes the Sony PlayStation 3 is capable of being the best system around. In a recent interview, he made it clear that even if the Nintendo Wii is cool and the Microsoft Xbox 360 earned his love, he still sees a bright future for the PS3.

After saying he hopes the PS2 remains strong, Jaffe noted that "we're just starting to see the idea that the PS3 is going to be capable of ultimately being the best system out there, in terms of delivering the best games and the best performance."

He cited Burnout Paradise as one of the games that should be played on Sony's console if players want it the way it's supposed to be played. Jaffe did stress out his love for the Xbox 360, but apparently, he's all for Burnout's performance on PS3.

"I love the fact that Blu-ray seems to be doing really well, and seems to be winning the format war," Jaffe added. "Of course I wish it was a little less costly, I wish it had a bigger market share, but I think all that is just to come."

Talking about the consoles' battle for dominance as a PS3 fan, he foresees Sony's system to soon take a lead over the Xbox 360 in terms of market share "when all the dust settles."

As for the Wii, Jaffe admitted that he likes the machine and Super Mario Galaxy is "pretty cool," but thinks Ratchet & Clank is the better platformer. The seasoned developer explained, "I didn't get the huge big deal over it; I thought it was a really good Mario game, but I wasn't like, 'Oh my God, it's Mario 64!'"

I agree

PS3 will win this war hands down.

No it won't, Microsoft will keep updating it's xbox360 to keep up with the PS3 as developers start to embrace it more and be able to get more out of it. Every xbox fanboy will run out, buy the new Premium model and be like: see ! Xbox360 rules ! Forgetting the fact that they spend 1200 on their game console in total.

i like the ps3 a lot

but why didnt they made the memory upgradeable? if we can only mod it to use 4gb ddr2 or ddr3 laptop memories, the ps3 can hands down kill all competition. and yes allow linux access to the rsx chip.

Because it's a console!

"but why didnt they made the memory upgradeable?" The whole point of a console is that from a gaming point of view, each machine is exactly the same. Upgradeable memory goes against this, since you can end up with a situation where some games will run better on the PS3s with upgraded memory compared to the others, or worse still, gamers being forced to upgrade their PS3s just to be able to run the lastest games.

...

I completely agree with him. Although the Wii and the X360 are cool consoles, too, the PS3 has much more potential than both together. heck, I wouldn't wonder if they bring out a Wiimote for the PS3... (not that they have to steal anything, but the idea is cool...)

Interesting

Since David was not going to say anything else for obvious reasons. What next, an interview from an ex-Bungie developer saying why he thinks the 360 is the best console around (after reminding us that he 'loves' his PS3 and Wii)? ;-)

Yep

I stole this quote from a /. page but I think it sums things up nicely: "Sony's Biggest folly IMO is their abhorrent lack of organization in the PS3. The PS3 still feels incomplete and probably wont feel "finished" until the release of home/full integration of the x-media bar." It's the same with the PSP. When it first came out you couldn't do much with it, it took a long time for them to roll out the kewl features. So, in comparrison, Sony released their product and slowly upgrades it to something amazing while Microsoft really puts all their effort into the big "LOOK! POWAR!" feel for it's first outing with little to no major upgrades thrown it's way. That sounds fine in the 360's camp right? Wrong, because gamers will get use to those and start demanding more when eventually the PS3s features will just up and pass those of the 360 all while dropping prices and gaining killer titles while MS is left scratching their heads wondering why sales from the first two years didn't continue as such for the lifespan of the console. Lastly, If rumors are correct. Sony plans on dropping the 80gb model, dropping the price of the 40gb model to $299 - giving it a shiney white case in teh process and introduce a new SKU with specs similar to that of the 60gb which included near perfect PS2 emulation with, assumingly, a larger HD... like 120... to show of it's awesomeness.

btw the memory is upgradeable

can swap out the ps3 hard drive with almost any size laptop sata drive. even says so in the instructiuons and the best part is it don't even void ur waranty

No CrYpT-WeeD

We're taking about RAM here, not hard disk space.

nice nice

NIce Hush if thats true with the $299 price for 40gb I'm getting one! :D

yess

If xbox 360 has such good "embrace", the only reason is because of the features they have.( Not to mention like a few games xbox 360 only. wow. omg halo...please spare me) Once, in time, PS3 will have everything. Computers are capable of anything, as well as the ps3. Look at Call of Duty now, its leading video game played on the xbox 360 mostly only because the owners whole already previously had the 360 plus the PS3 not containing the XMB that once released will have great succession. PS3 will come back, sooner or later.

Getting rid of the 80

Won't really help Sony, unless they plan on making the 60GB again and since the production cost lower half to what it was maybe they could sell the 40GB at $299 and the 60GB at $399 that sound like a possibility. And i hope it happens. Expect big boom in sales when that happens. I think Sony is going to pull something big and awesome, they have a master plan which, i hope, is bring back he 60GB.

60 gig

FTW

Only thing I getting 360 for is Halo, yes I would dig the burn hole in my pocket just to play halo since my brother got me into it on his old xbox. but I know I got to get a ps3 sooner or later becasue I fan with MGS too. I not getting just for them, I got a psp and I want some more fun with it on the PS3. Web browser is great too, now I can look internet porn in my room instead using my junk laptop or be looking behind my back for people going "What the hell you looking at? omg she got a nice butt". I not big fan of linux but limits on ram and video would be boring. 360 I like to get more out of media center and the arcade collection to me is very sweet. Also playing music while playing a game. Makes me just wanna throw my cd player away while I finally can jam on tv while playing the game. Ring of death would be scarely but hey my A/C is nearby. I just dont play it on the hot day. Wii, oh give me a break, do I have to get of my lazy ass and play it? Overall PS3 and 360 still be great for me and having different content on different hard drives +D
