I've long been of the opinion that nostalgia should be left in the rose-tinted memories of the past, where it belongs especially in the case of video games. The sad fact is that our wonderful memories of yesteryear's games often don't age well when presented with modern gameplay advancements and HD graphics (caveat: Megaman 9).

This sentiment was unfortunately lost on Calling all Cars game designer, David Jaffe who sought to recreate the magic he felt playing circa 1993's Rock 'n Roll Racing without appropriately modernizing his creation modernizing itself to today's standards.

He explained that this was indeed a bit of a mistake on his part over the course of an eight minute YouTube video on the topic:

» Not the problem..

The problem is that RnR racing was a RACING game, Calling all cars is not. How do you start off copying a racing game and end up trying to put criminals in jail. He should have just taken RnRracing and updated the graphics, I would have bought that. I waited for Qore to give me CaC.

» WTF!?!?!?!?!

This game failed because it sucks! The play control is annoing and it's too easy to play which makes for pointless game play just like Tic-Tac-Toe. I've spent hours playing that game getting no where because it's too easy to grab and run. I finally gave up.

The game is always a tie.

» It sucked.

You beat me to it, ISOHaven: the reason Calling All Cars tanked (clear-and-simple) is because it MASSIVELY SUCKED. I'm not going to go listening to 8mins of David Blowhard Jaffe explaining why his supposedly 'retro' concept didn't work because of his theory that people don't really want 'retro' games today. --Because it would all be a steaming pile of BS, considering that many other games with 'retro-like' gameplay, or outright 'retro-concepts' (Monsters, 1941, Commando, etc) are NOT totally bombing. ....They don't give a free copy of Calling All Cars away with nearly every issue of Qore without a good reason.
