Ever wondered why the good-looking Dark Sector (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3) is a third-person shooter when it could have just as easily been a first-person affair? There's a reason behind it and the devs over at Canada-based Digital Extremes will tell you about it in the video below.

Along the way, they'll tell you about the challenges that developing a third-person shooter entail. They'll give you references to such hits as Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, God of War, and even the old favorite Max Payne.

Without further ado, here's Digital Extremes in their Expanding Horizons interview about Dark Sector. Enjoy!

Nice explanation but...

I still don't like 3rd person games and will not be buying this. If it were 1st person, I'd be all over it.

This looks dope

I like to be open minded about games and not only limit myself to only one Type of game. In my opinion FPS and Third Person Shooters are dope and this game looks great...so Im gonna get this for sure

I agree with their logic

I've always felt that 3rd person games give more of a feel for the characters story, as opposed to first person that make the player feel like the character, so it's clear the two different styles have their places. Even in a game like Half Life where it all seems to be about Gordon, you never get much of a feel for him. But take Gears of War, the character you play is fairly inconsequential, but you start to bond with the little sucker. I'm loving the look of this, brutal, solid story, and fun. Been a long time since I've actually looked forward to a game, but I'll be counting the days for this. I like a good story.

Wow...

2008 seems to be the year where developers figured out that they have to make a quality product. Now, let's see how they execute.

lmao

He said your not a floating gun xD. I kind of dissagree, I like both but I'd rather 3rd person. I like seeing my character doing kool stuff like in this game. And im better online with 3rd person (if anyones ever played me in Metal gear online for the PS3 you'd know!). But yea I guess its all about opinion.
