Dante's Inferno - Image 1

Grab your nearest tour guide (in this case, it'd be Virgil the poet) because we're heading straight to hell, mates. Originally planned for this year, Dante's Inferno is now being scheduled for a 2010 release on the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.

What's more is that, coupled in Electronic Arts' press release, we now also hear that they're planning to come up with a feature-length animated movie to compliment the story in the game. Yes, I know what you're thinking: just like what happened to Dead Space.

Fact of the matter is, the Dante's Inferno animated movie will be produced by Joe Goyette, that's the same guy who did Dead Space: Downfall (a movie I wasn't really fond of, but still found, at the very least, slightly entertaining).

There's also Victor Cook (The Spectacular Spider-Man, Hellboy Animated: Blood & Iron) who will be directing, and Brandon Auman (Iron Man: Armored Adventures) on writing.

From what we could gather of the Dante's Inferno movie, it's going to "explore aspects of the poem that the game does not, and will provide more insight into the characters and the unique story adaptation that the game has established." Typical of any game-companion movies, or other such media.

Hah. I just hope they don't botch up the epic.

» Well huh

Saw my first bit about this in Gamepro and now I keep thinking to myself why do I care about a christian centric game that has non christians in hell for reasons that are related to their ways of practising their religion. It will be interesting to see if they include sections like that in the game. Really what they should have looked at would be a slightly modernized version of Dante because some sins are just out of date these days and new ones need to be added. They should Talk to Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle (Inferno, Escape From Hell and other books) and see how they adapted concepts centuries out of date and made them more understandable for a modern audience. Because who cares if in the game you meet a particular priest who sold favors to people when you could use a modern example like Anna Nichole Smith being in the level for Greed.
