Crysis boxshot - Image 1While critically acclaimed and widely popular among PC gaming enthusiasts with rigs powerful enough to run it, Crysis seems lackluster commercially since it's not known to be a big multi-million seller unlike other high profile first-person shooters last year. Consequently, Crytek president Cevat Yerli has revealed that piracy did its work and led his company to steer clear of exclusives.

In a recent interview, Yerli talked about market reception of the visually state-of-the-art FPS. He was quoted saying:

We are suffering currently from the huge piracy that is encompassing Crysis. We seem to lead the charts in piracy by a large margin, a chart leading that is not desirable.

After blaming piracy as the major cause of PC gaming's decline, he stated Crytek won't go PC exclusive anymore. Even Crysis, which is expected to last a trilogy, may be seen on consoles in its next installment. "We are going to support PC, but not exclusive anymore," said Yerli.

Meanwhile, Crytek's head honcho firmly stressed Crysis as we know it can't run on consoles. According to Yerli, "Crysis would have to be largely changed to bring it to Xbox 360 or Playstation 3."

Sorry Yeril is right. Do you have any idea what it takes to run crysis. Even to get 30FPS on super high setting you need atleast a 8800GTX. Plus thats at 1080p resolution with no AA and no AF. There is no card or cards out right now that can max crysis at 1900x1200 res. with 16xAA/16xAF at 60FPS. So if you thing there wouldnt be huge sacrifices you haveno idea what you are talking about.

» if it were in lower res like COD4

it could pretty well have a chance.

my laptop is only 8600 and on medium, runs pretty nicely

» WTF!?!?!?!?!

It's not just about power. Crysis is a DX9 game with DX10 extensions.

Crysis simply would NOT look like it was intended on either console. They simply do not have the technology built in to do it. It has nothing to do with not being able to "handle" it.

I love when game companies try to blame piracy for poor PC game sales. I'm sure piracy effects sales, but Crysis was hurt by lackluster marketing and the fact that only like 25% of PC gamers could run the damn game.

by na2rul - 2008-04-30 12:45
» 25%?

its 2.5% :)

Those stats mean nothing.

1. More business machines are sold then home machines. It's IMPOSSIBLE to determine 100% which are which.

2. Who cares if a machine 8+ years old can't play Crysis? Has anyone qualified WHICH machines are in those stats?

3. The percentage of HOME MACHINES that can play Crysis that were which the last two years is HIGH.

4. That stat probably assumes Crysis at MAX performance.

FACT:

5. If you want to play a new game then consists of BRAND NEW architecture then you need a relatively new machine.

Anyone who expects to play a DX10 game on an old machine isn't that bright. In theory alone that would be like trying to play FF13 on a PS2. COME ON!!! It's not going to happen nor should it happen.

So, let's take this 2.5% to a whole new level. FF13 comes out. Now add up EVERY SINGLE CONSOLE in every single home and come up with a percentage of how many consoles will run it. Pretty stupid percentage eh? Even if you ONLY add up Sony consoles (PS1, PS2, PS3). It's a pointless number.
