Crysis vs. Real Life

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so following these comparison pics, I will be rivaling their beauty with a thousand word essay on the wonder that is Xena: Warrior Princess.

Crysis

If there was any doubt that Crysis was at the absolute top of the graphics heap right now, I think these pics just killed the argument. Rumor has it the boys at Crytek are porting the engine over to the PS3 and Xbox 360 hardware, so maybe soon we'll get to see this more of this stunning engine.

So what say you guys? Real life pwned?

I think it looks better than real life. JK. No, but this game engine is the closest that has come to photorealistic graphics. Those pictures speak for themselves. I do hope they make a game for xbox360 and PS3 with this engine. The only thing im afraid of is that i hope the game isnt just graphics, AI, and physics. Those are essential for a game but the game has to be fun and have a good story. Also does anyone know what hard ware specs you need in order to play this games?

i wonder what they could do with some hot chicks

They didnt say that these pics from xbox360 or PS3. These pics are from PC so hpw can you say you can tell which system this from when these pics where not taken from a consoles but the PC. Maybe you should try reading the article before making dumb ass comments.

I call shenanagins.

There is no aliasing on the bottom picture first of all. And second, if this is real-time(which I doubt), what is rendering it?

by nub - 2006-06-07 03:46
» ...

clearly there is aliasing on the poles of the gate. open your eyes.

But yeah who knows if its pre rendered or rendered in real time. Either way I bet that if any system these days tries to make a game with those sick ass graphics its going to run at like 1 fps.

this gaphics looks perfect . its near the reality , but the reality is a little bit better . with the next-next gen consoles like PLAYSTATION 4 + Xbox 3 it would be better than the reality ! ! !

» frame rate

This game is currently running at pretty good framerate considering that DirectX10 isn't out yet.

And it's all thanks to that nifty Cry Engine.

by Don't Worry About It - 2006-06-07 04:14
» This probably isn't all that great.

#1: Each indivual frame is like 300x300. ANYTHING can look great at that size, lol

#2: The grass and shadows in the second pic look really bad.

by ffaldkja - 2006-06-07 04:24
» i agree with 11

in the second pick the grass and shadows do look pretty bad. The shadows dont fade and feather as they should and the grass looks like its been sent 10000 volts through it. Also, there seems to be a lack of depth perception and ozone. But other than that it looks pretty damn good.

The crysis pictures look better than the real thing.

The grass is the best ever, maybe you should look at it in high resolution. And for those of you which aren“t informed, its realtime !!!

cant wait to play this game, pretty close to the real thing in about 1 to 2 years we will be seeing games prolly as real as possible

» @#13 and #16

I think you two need glasses. How is this better than real life? You may have to lay off the LSD or put your glasses on.

Anyway. Just imagine if oblivion was running on this engine.

everything looks good, but the grass. it looks horible.

by spicyhamster - 2006-06-07 07:09
» @13 and 16

come on. its impossible for anything man-made to ever look 'more realistic' than nature. think about it. do you see what I mean? nothing's more realistic than reality.

but anyways, yeah, crysis looks amazing, with the exception of that awful grass. I'm looking forward to playing it on my friends comuter (there's no way my computer could ever run that :) )

#15 "Is anybody planning to make an actual game with this?" are you retarded? Theres this game called Crysis, I dont know if you have heard of it though. You are an idiot.

Crysis is a tech demo pretending to be a game.

Call me when someone's going to make an actual game with this engine.

» #1 #28

It is funny how people come to gaming news sites and yet they are still so misinformed. PC will always be the pillar of graphics, physics, AI, etc. So far Crysis and its engine is PC only but maybe it will come to PC like Unreal Engine 3.

by Slapaho - 2006-06-07 12:22
» typo

Just correcting my typo in the above post. Meant consoles instead of PC

by chief - 2006-06-07 13:13
» some ppl are just plain stupid

crysis (an actual game, not a tech demo) is the name of a game being made by EA for pc's not 360/ps3, it uses the crytec engine. also the devs were the ppl that made far cry before EA bought it.

by anon - 2006-06-07 15:16
» too small

Those screens are way too small to pick the detail from the engine. PS2 screens at that size would look good

the only way i could tell the cg ones were fake was too look at the grass of the one with the shed. unbelievable

by Jolly - 2006-06-07 18:05
» Not new but awesome...

You could've said the same things after looking at the grand canyon stage of Gran Turismo 4 on the PS2 or the amalfi stage, the point is that if you're out, putting graphics for most of each and every detail of a fixed environment, you can simply remake it and the HD power of the next-gen consoles is enough to make you produce something like that. It is obvious that 'NOW' its been under consideration and was not before when GT4 gave most of the 50 environments upto almost true look of their real world counterparts, only because its time for next-gen and next-gen demands attention to get into stores.

The Grass looks awfull;P

by NRG753 - 2006-06-07 18:34
» PC's still ahead of consoles

With all these next-gen consoles, they've said that PC's will not surpass them for years to come, but already there are DX10 games such as this. ATi and nVidia are planning much faster graphics chips than what consoles have, and AMD and Intel are planning extremely fast CPU's. Imagine what 45nm CPU's could do.

Still, I have a PS2, PSP, and XBox, and I'm no PC Fanboy (sick of that word), and I think consoles have the advantage of being a closed platform, thus devs can squeeze performance from them. However DirectX 10 from what I've been reading will fix alot of these problems. It should be a great platform to work on, and there shouldnt be many, if any variances between DX10 based graphics hardware other than performance.

Maybe they can finally make you a girlfriend.

by MGSROCKS1 - 2006-06-08 09:41
» Amazing

If you showed the crysis pictures to regular people, they would think they are real! I was wondering if perhaps Crytek would license their engine like the Unreal Engine? They would make so much money and all of the problems of sucky graphics and rough character edges would be gone. It probably won't happen because they want to have the best looking games, and don't want their competitors have an advantage. Still, I hope the bring this game to Next-gen consoles. Imagine playing this game with surround system, and a 30 inch+ HD TV!

by NRG753 - 2006-06-08 14:49
» heheh

@42

Well imagine playing this game on a Logitech Z-5500 with a Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty, and a high DPI 1600x1200 resloution LCD monitor! There's far better in PCs if you want awesome audio quality and good display.

And yeah I agree, they should licenese the engine, it's simply outstanding. Gives UE3.0 a run for its money.

by NO! - 2006-06-09 04:46
» NAH!

imagine playing this on a 67' Samsung 1080p DLP with like 7.1 surround sound speakers in a dark media room.

by NRG753 - 2006-06-19 14:36
» hah

But, with all that size, only PS3 can get 1080p resolution, and that's 1920x1080. 720p is what most HDTV's can support, and that is 1280x720. Now most PC monitors support these resolutions quite easily, and they're smaller. When you blow these resolutions right up to 67inch, they appear much more blocky than a 20inch PC monitor, thus a PC monitor has a much greater DPI than a HDTV. For sound, any of Creatives latest sound cards can blow any console out of the water.. and then some, seriously. My Z-5500 may only be 5.1, but it's the most incredible sound system I've heard, it blows away our local cinema. If 5.1 isnt good enough for you (I think it's more than adequate) , you can also get 7.1 systems for PC's.

yeah i agree with everybody that the grass sucksss alotttt

but how can that be real time? thats like crazy! if thats real time im gonna go sit infront of my video game store until it comes out

by dude osapamql - 2006-06-27 06:57
» it's real.

This is real time and running on a decent frame rate.

by dorman - 2006-08-09 00:46
» its not perfect

not perfect but many people actually find the colors in games alot nicer than real life

the thing i am worried about is gameplay and realism i don't want to withstand 1000 bullets i want to die if the ai gets a headshot on me and the same with them
