Crysis coming to PS3, not direct port of PC game?

Crysis Crytek - Image 1

Non-PC gamers who want to take a shot at Crytek's Crysis may possibly get their wish. According to an article snippet published in UK's PSW Magazine, Crysis will be released on Sony's PlayStation 3 console. Do read the excerpt of the article below and judge for yourself:

The excitable, hard-worked coders over at Crytek have said as much in many interviews - they even produced a new, multi-platform engine in readiness - but the real juice here is that it wont be a straight conversion of the PC game.

We understand PS3 Crysis will be almost 50% new game with many of the original game staff taken off PC Crysis months before release to begin work on Crysis 2 and a port to PS3 that will include aspects of the sequel - but a new structure, environments, weapons and enemies will feature on PS3.

Sounds exciting, yes? The rumor of Crysis coming to the Sony PS3 may be old news to some, but hearing about the PS3 version which could possibly be a new game is quite new. Of course, since this is just a rumor you will need to take this tidbit with a grain of salt, and wish that we're going to have an official confirmation coming straight from the the developers themselves, soon.

Has surprised me greatly. I honestly thought they would abandon the PS3 like most other lazy devs, but they are actually making a stand. This is cool.

It'll be interesting to see how this stands up to the PC version. Even though the PC was still only DX9 with DX10 extensions.

I look forward to a REAL full blown DX10 game compared to it's PS3 counterpart. I expect the PC to win, we'll see!

And not rush this project if all is done right and re-look after re-look with keyboard and mouse option over the sixaxis control then something big can come out of this. Just my 2 cent.

PS3 is powerful...but anyone who has the cash can build the most powerful beast of a rig...

I'll play this on my PC instead.

Maybe the 50% more stuff is cool, but I would have to buy the mouse&keyboard pack at bestbuy, and it's 50$, PLUS the game, so no go for me.

But I want to see how far they can push the ps3, just look at what they did with crysis on the PC.

I'm expecting Killzone 2 type graphics or better!

would you need to buy a mouse and keyboard.. First off you can use a controller OR just use your mouse and keyboard from your computer (if its USB type or wireless)

It will probably not exceed KZ2's graphics due to one reason alone. Dev experience on the ps3. Crytek has virtually no experience on the ps3 whereas Guerrilla has 2 plus years... This fact alone is enough. However, a state of the art power rig with full direct x 10 combatible video card (of around $800+)will surely be better than the ps3 version thats for sure. If you have 5000 bucks to spare that is. For now i will be happy with the near identical 400 dollar version of crysis thank you very much!

And thats if crytek puts enough effort on the ps3 port to make it even close to the pc version...

Time will tell as usual.

Crysis had a horrific storyline and gameplay. That game was only eye candy. Who gives a flying *bleep* that its going to be on the PS3. The gameplay and story will be the same. Face it, Crytek has no experience in making PS3 games, or on PS consoles in general. Which Constantinecy said already.

Fact is i didn't like Crysis i thought it was mediocre at best.

I want good storyline, gameplay and then maybe graphics, even then its nothing i need.

But it already fails with 2/3 why bother. So no im not even pleased at this. Just another game that reviews will bash for being sucky. Which the PS3 needs none of.

I did not know gears of war could play so good on both 360 and PC with dx10.

but Crysis seems a good challenge to see which is best, PC or console

They all look pretty, and it seems they're all less than average in everything but graphics.

Halo's overhyped, but at least it's a decent enough game in it's own right.

mind you, the PC version wasnt a straight port but more of a detailed version("the way its meant to be" so says the producer)

The extra levels where noticably larger in scale. these utilise the PC power.

Sorry, I have to clear this up a little:

"full direct x 10 combatible video card (of around $800+)"

You do NOT need to spend $800 on a video card for DX10. Over $800 is just flat out absurd. DX10 cards have come down as far as $220. So for $440 you can have a pretty good SLI rig.

"If you have 5000 bucks to spare that is."

Again, not even close. You can have a machine that plays Crysis just fine at around $1,200. Probably less, I only priced components from a single site.

But but but the PS3 is only $400.....anyone that goes there is a complete idiot.

There's some major misconceptions here.

1. Obviously, PLENTY of people care.

2. A "company" doesn't need PS3 experience, the employees do. There has been NO mention of who they may or may not have hired on for this project. Yet alone who they are collaborating with.

# the main advantage of PCGeosondaman 2008-03-04 10:14
is the RAM size...Crytek head Cervat Yerli already said both 360 and PS3 have good enough graphics cards and CPUs to run Crysis. It's the memory that is the main concern. Therefore, most likely this port will have smaller levels, and maybe fewer draw distance. Other than that the game would look as good as PC version in 1080p. Also, there can be insane amounts of AA and AF in a PC game due to the fact that you can shift the graphics card power to those aspects. In console, they would have to find the right balance.

Playstation 3 is the future plain and simple.

If you add in what 1st shooters will be big for PS3 in 2008 and 2009 it's big.

2008:

Resistance 2 (PS3 Only)

Killzone 2 (PS3 Only)

2009:

Crysis (PS3/PC)

Project Offset (PS3/360/PC)
