Consumers considering alternative holiday gifts over PS3?

giftsSo a lot of people sure would want to get the PlayStation 3 for Christmas. However, it seems as though many of those who are dependent on the good graces of their parents or relatives will be disappointed.

According to Los Angeles-based research company, Wedbush Morgan Securities, U.S. and Canadian consumers are rethinking their prior decision of giving out PS3s for gifts this coming holiday. Primarily, they are taking into consideration the cost of the console, which is expected to cost between US $449 and US $599. As consumers, they can't help but compare the PS3's launch price to its predecessor, the PS2, which was about US $300 cheaper, and to its rival, the Xbox 360, which is more affordable by US $160 less.

Says Research director, Michael Patcher, the trend of the consumers is to merely buy games for their existing consoles, rather than wait for the next-generation system.

Of course, although the PS3 console is all set to launch in North America come November 17, those consumers who are wary of this, given the PAL delay, is already coming up with alternative gifts for the holidays, if and when Sony delays the release once more. But of course, that's absolutely the last thing we want to happen.

So, nearing the final stretch of the wait, as the PS3 will set on U.S. shores in but a month, we're all keeping our fingers crossed that there will be no more nasty surprises heading our way to spoil our holiday. We don't want anything less than a PS3 unit sitting comfortably under our tree.
