Console of choice for Evo: The PlayStation 3 |
Ó
When your top gaming platform is the console of choice for the largest and longest-running fighting game tournaments in the world, that says a lot about performance. Sony must be pretty pleased to know that the PlayStation 3 is the console of choice for the Evo Championship series, and the top players in the world will be counting on the black beauty to make sure that they get their A-game on.
Out of their six official games, three will be played on the PS3: Street Fighter IV, Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, and Soul Calibur IV. Two will be on the PS2, while the Marvel vs. Capcom 2 will be on Dreamcast. The King of Fighters XII tourney back in May, which was also played on the PS3, doesn't count since the event was organized in cooperation with SCEA. As it is, the Evo Championship Series is very PlayStation-clad.
If you still feel like getting it on with the pros and haven't registered, there are still three days left to register for this year's Evo, which will be held on July 17th-18th at the Rio Hotel and Resort in Las Vegas.

Man I wish Sega would release another game console. I owned a Dreamcast and liked it. To bad it was short lived.
I've still got a Dreamcast but I was never that keen on it. Other than the odd game of SFIII and Bangai-O it didn't have a lot to offer me despite the fact it came with about 20 games or so. Come to think of it I should put them on ebay and let someone else have them who'd actually play them.
sony marketed their console in a way to cause buyers to wait for their console and not buy the dreamcast
this destroyed sega almost entirely thats why no more console's come from sega
the dreamcast was too easy to pirate on. it was as simple as burning a cd putting it into the system and it would start. thus sega stopped supporting it sooner.
Sega's reputation had been hurt due to commercial failure of the Sega Saturn and Sega 32X. but that did not hurt the Dreamcast from selling well, in both Japan and US. Plus the Dreamcast came out a year befor the
PS2. The problem was that Sega did not put the resources needed for a full push marketing campaign. They could have done that, they had the resources to pull it off. But in the end Sega deside to pull the plug after a year.
I REALLY loved the dreamcast it was a great console, It was just way ahead of it's time, all those great games that were ported to the ps2 originally came from the dreamcast: Street Fighter III: Third Strike, Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 etc.
Honorable game mentions:
Sonic Adventure 2
Shenmue 1 & 2
Jo Jo's Bizarre Adventure
Ooga Booga
Unreal Tournment
I could go on and on...
- Its obvious why the PS3 was chosen as the game machine to play on! Everyone else's D-Pad sucks donkey balls!
Seriously, Sony is the only one around with a decent D-Pad these days and that counts for a lot in terms of old skool fighters.
Heck, I think the only fighter I ever feel comfy using the stick is Soul Calibur.
Chances are anyone at EVO is going to be using an arcade stick, not a D-Pad.
it has nothing to do with controller at all as most pro fighting game enthusiast preffer arcade stick over d-pad.
Fighting game enthusiasts differ on control style. A lot use arcade style sticks and a lot use D-Pads. There's no clear majority or crowd favorite and the debate between which is better is never ending. But I do agree that it doesn't really matter what the control is like since you can get a fight pad or arcade stick for either system. I don't know what they based the decision on but I'd pick the PS3 just because...I don't know it seems right to me sorta fits its PS3 "personality"
