Confirmed: Unreal Tournament 3 to be timed PS3 exclusive |

Now one of the biggest news that touched the PC bracket is the fact that Unreal Tournament 3 will be a timed exclusive for Sony's PlayStation 3, following Sony's press conference at the E3 Media & Business Summit in Santa Monica. Epic Games has entered a deal with Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) to optimize the Unreal Engine for the PS3.
In line with this, Sony has announced an November release date for the PlayStation 3 version of Unreal Tournament 3, with an engine specially optimized for rendering and playing on the CELL BE-powered console. Or so goes the official press release from Sony:
Midway and Epic Games will make the platform debut of Unreal Tournament 3, one of the worldÂ’s premiere first-person shooters, exclusively on PS3 this fall, unleashing the full power of Unreal Engine 3 with graphics, gameplay and challenges brought to a whole new level.
In contrast, the PC and Xbox 360 versions were targeted for an early September release. And as Mark Rein did clarify previously, all versions will be optimized for their respective platforms. However, questions have risen on whether the term "exclusively on PS3" only encompasses the next-generation consoles or also includes the PC.
And while Epic has yet to clarify the details, analysts have pegged the Xbox 360 delay as a logical and timely preparation for the release of Bungie's Halo 3 coming September. Speculations also bubbled up as to whether the PC version is also being moved in anticipation for Crytek's Crysis, another shooter claimed technologically superior to UT3, coming sometime in Q3 2007.

I'm getting all PS3 exclusive games, timed or not, to support the developers who are supporting Sony.
Everything else comes second even games like GTAIV and Assassins Creed.
according to Gamespy, this game is supposed to be console-exclusive for the PS3 straight-up. But maybe they just heard it wrong.
Still, this game looks to be best UE3 game yet.
I hope the writer isn't inferring that Halo 3 deters Epic from releasing UT3! That's a joke!

i'm still really pissed at epic games for this. bunch of greedy back stabbers they are. they know that PC is going to be over 2 thirds of the market for UT3 yet they give into sony. And sony boasts that you can use the PC mods for it. but yea when are those PC mods going to come out. WHEN IT'S NOT EXCLUSIVE.
And all this will mean is probably they'll take more time on the PC and 360 versions to make them even better and ad cross-platform play.
@Seoulfood: they're wrong. Epic already made a deal with microsoft to optimize the game for Xbox LIVE and GFW Live. now 360 and PC users just have to wait longer. and i've only been *****ing waiting since it was called UT2k5

UT3 isn't the only game doing this, haze is too. even if halo does suck it will still sell like crazy.
but delaying the release until after the halo hype has died down UT3 will sell more because people on a budget won't have to decide between halo and UT3 (naturally, most xbots will choose halo). is that so hard to understand?
Halo is the number 34 franchise with over 14.7 million copies sold across all its games. Whereas Unreal Tournament isn't even in the top 50, with less than 3 million copies sold

Yea the game has been confirmed as being released for PC and PS3 this year and 360 next year(expect a jan. release). Really I dont know why anyone would want to buy UT on a console anyway, the game just wont work as intended on a controller(way less twitch response). I will say nastradamus has a point as to why this and haze are timed exclusives, even if he is an obvious fan-boy(really calling people "xbots" destroys your credibility). They know there sales are going to be hit insanely hard with the release of halo3 so if sony will pay them (prolly a crap load) to be exclusive on a less tapped yet quite smaller market for a couple months its a smart move. I love how sony fanboys are so misconstrued in there logic towards upcoming game, they all are screaming about how Halo 3 (a game which previous titles received nothing but excellent scores) will suck horribly yet Killzone 2 (a game which previous title was rated very mediocre) really wheres the logic in that? I understand that Killzone2 looks pretty damn good and very well could be excellent, but i have to wait to see especially since the first was just OK sony fanboys just blast halo 3 even considering its tract record.
about FPS games have to be played with keyboard and mouse, but maybe you forgot you can connect any usb-keyboard and usb-mouse to your PS3 :)

you do realise Epic is releasing this game on PS3 early because they cant compete with the 30+ games coming out on the XBOX 360 before 2007 ends.

yea shortly after i posted that i watched the rest of E3 live that i have tivoed and heard that. made me very happy.
and i do think that if UT3 came out on the 360 at the same time as halo 3 it probably wouldn't sell that much. and a good 2/3rd of UT3's sales will be on PC where it will look better than both the 360 and PS3 and we already have a giant community for mods and multiplayer.

The 360 always gets the better version, despite the PS3 version suposedly being "optimized for the cell."
Gears of War showed us what the Unreal engine can do on the 360, and that was last year.

It is definately funny. All the people who give a damn about Halo already have a 360. Good or bad MS will have no significant gain in sales because of Halo.
UT will move more units for both boxes than either Halo or Killzone. The only E3 trailer that looked half as interesting as UT3 was Pain.

Anyways, nice to see this...I was kinda hoping for it as I will be playing Halo and wouldn't have bought this on release anyways.
This also gets rid of any excuses saying "360 held back the PS3" We will get to see what epic does with both consoles and have a true comparison....
Works really well on a console actually...
You pump up the sensitivity on the controller and you can do a 360 as fast as with a mouse...all while keeping your cursor at head level, as you don't need to hit up and down, just left/right.....I like that level of control more...not to mention jumping and double jumping is ALOT easier....and no comparison when it comes to vehicles....
Anyways, sony needs SOMETHING big like this, so i'm happy it happened...I would also buy Halo 3 over this if they came out at the same time....although I am just as excited for this game as well.
Also the more time they get to optimise it for the 360, the better for people with 360's....this will be a good comparison game as it's optimised for both systems and tehre can be no "one system held back the other" BS....
Not true, I have 3 friends that love their halo, but just halo...so they are waiting for it to be released to get the 360....
I'm sure there are many more like that as well....because really if you only want the system for 1 or 2 games, waiting for a price drop is the best thing, especially if the game isn't released yet...

But then it will be optimized for all the platforms it's released on....so really, you PS3 users will have no excuses when, like all games so far, it looks better on 360 in the end....
Only thing PS3 has the upper hand on is the Mod factor....i'd like to be able to make maps for the game....
i am glad this is happening cause picking between halo 3 and ut3 would be hard but i would go for halo but now when im done with halo i can play ut3 i love them both and its a good move for everyone. each console getting optimized and when i comes out for 360 it wont have other games to bash it sales.

as for the games... it's not like it's a fuc*king rip off!!! all of them are very good games!!!! and i'm getting them all!!!! i'm just going to prioritize all the games i'm getting and i choose to support developers who find value in the hardware that i've invested in... i'm getting all these exclusives on their respective launch dates... as for the other multi plat games they will still be on shelves anyway even after a year from now... Devil May Cry 4 can wait as well as GTA, Madden, Assassins and others...
i'll be busy playing all the exclusives which some of them as better anyway than those multiplats.
