Confirmed: SOCOM launch date

Sony has unveiled the release date for upcoming online shooter SOCOM: Confrontation. The exclusive will be out exactly on September 16th this year.

To drum up support for the game, Sony has put together a fan site which will open tomorrow. Prior to the launch, the SOCOM: Confrontation site will serve as a rally point where everyone can find news and updates about the game. After the title is released, the site becomes a center where the community and the devs will converge.

SOCOM: Confrontation, like its predecessors, is a third-person shooter which can support 32 players on any given match. It will be available to PS3 owners both as a Blu-ray disc and as a download via the PlayStation Store.

Great News. I thought that it would come a little later given the fact that we hadn't heard from it in a while.

Gears of War 2 VS Resistance 2? It's more like:

Gears of War 2 VS MGS4, Resistance 2, SOCOM, Killzone 2 and Haze.

The sheer number of good exclusives we are getting this year is going to drive me straight to bankruptcy.

Please try and deny that this is our year.

I actually thought it was going to be out earlier, given the rumors and the fact it was scheduled for the fall of LAST year at one point. I'm happy to see they're taking their time on it (but not too much time ;] ). It's good they're spacing it out so it doesn't get pwned by mgs4 or Resistance2 or Killzone2 or Littlebigplanet ...okay maybe it will be...

I just hope this game doesn't suck. If they can pull off a S2 feel they will have a hit!

I wonder how much space it eats up on the HDD... I'll probably buy the Blu-ray anyway, so I can trade it in at GameStop if I get bored with it.

man they ruined socom on psp with ts, now they gonna ruin the whole thing with this game. hopefully zipper is still making a real socom game!!!
