Confirmed: No PS3-PC cross-platform play in UT3 |

There has been a lot of talk about the possibility of cross-platform play in Unreal Tournament 3 (PC, PS3, and Xbox 360). The addition of mouse and keyboard support to the game's PlayStation 3 version has also fueled further speculation about PS3-PC online multiplayer.
While it certainly is a very interesting idea, Epic Games has finally confirmed that no, there will not be any cross-platform online multiplayer in Unreal Tournament 3. At launch, anyway. Here's what Epic VP Mark Rein had to say about the subject in a recent IRC chat with Beyond Unreal:
The biggest challenge in doing cross platform play is synchronizing the builds such that the build on the PC is 100% compatible with the build on the PS3. Unfortunately (or fortunately) when you games on console you have a lengthy certification process to go through each time you release anything new...
We looked at how this would impact our ability to respond quickly to things happening at internet speed on the PC side of the equation and realized that would not be in the best interests of our very loyal PC user base because we would constantly be holding on to updates to wait until they passed cert on the console platform
There's is still some hope, though. Rein went on to say that cross-platform play may still be added "after the game has settled down". For the full chat log, click on the Read link below.

I don't care either way. I'm mostly looking foward to the single player campaign anyway. I love the new things they've added to the game and I can't wait to see what they were able to pull off graphically with the PS3. Punk ass Cliffy B. " Gears of War would have been impossible on PS3" Yeah right! I'd like to see him face to face when the game launches for the PS3 and ask him what he thinks of the Hardware now.
They've already said the PS3 is not going to get all of the content that the PC version is getting due to hardware limitations and such. I'll definitely be getting this game for PC. This game IS all about the multiplayer, have you ever played any other Unreal tournament games? Single handedly the best online FPS games on the market. This game is going to destroy everything else in multiplayer. And I'm sure the single player campaign will be fun, but thats like getting Halo 3 for just the campaign rather than the multiplayer.
PC players are cheaters. I wouldnt want to share a server with them. Every console game that shares its online space with PCs suffer for it. Just look at FFXI, plagued by third party hacks and cheats on PC, while PS2 and Xbox360 players are playing the game legitimately. There's no reason to let PCs play with PS3s.. they're not worthy.. they'll lag us out and they're dirty cheaters.
its better only on console because pc users will have the advantage coz they use a mouse which is easier. and i agree with god best online fps. the last unreal tournament was better than halo 2 online. i think this one will be better than halo 3 online.
Yea, because no one cheats in Gears of War with glitching and such. *rolls eyes*
xd its impossible to understand this dude, i mean.. ps3 got a unique Unreal Enige and there a imo much more options to build a game like Gears of War :D i wont say xbox360 is bad... but sry a xbox360 game can be made more improved on a ps3. +[ i apoligize for my bad english.
Guys, seriously.. WTF? PC players are cheaters? First off, there are now ways to ensure players are banned from playing online (such as in Counterstrike). Nothing is going to stop people from exploting glitches on the PS3 version so when your playing Unreal 3 on your PS3 and someone is hiding in a wall and kiling you than you'll have something to complain about. PC users have the advantage because they use a mouse? Dude, the PS3 version supports mouse and keyboard so your up shiets creak without a paddle if you think you can use the sixaxis on PS3 multiplayer against people who are using a keyboard and mouse. The PC version will be better. I love my PS3 but this is just a game where it will just play better on PC. You can try to find any reason to defend purchasing it for your PS3 but the only reason you should get it for PS3 rather than PC is because your PC is not up to specs with the requirements to play Unreal 3.

In fact, if Cliffy B had said that about Gears of War, it would have been reported here on QJ, with 100s of posts from gamers and fanboys argueing about it. I fu**in know the ps3 supports keyboard and mouse, but who goig to use a mouse for the ps3 game when they probably sit a couple of meters away from the tv. it aint like a pc where your close to it and you have a desk for your mouse. and there are pc cheaters i know some people who cheat at cs source and how you going to get a cheat program running on the ps3

Well when did CliffyB say this? Because it wasn't till recently that Unreal Engine 3 was compatible with the PS3, plus, they started developement on Gears of War before the PS3 hardware was ready. so there. Technically it would be impossible on PS3, well not now, now that the PS3 hardware has been finished and that Unreal Engine 3 is compatible with the PS3 now.

At the Sony press conference, Epic demoed their Unreal Engine technology on the PS3 in realtime. http://www.vgpub.com/articles/1100-1.html "Sony showed off the Unreal 3 engine demo in action on the PlayStation. It looked like an FMV sequence, but then a Sony rep grabbed a controller and moved the camera around?it was realtime." At that same E3, Epic were talking about how quickly they were able to port the engine to the PS3, and how pleased they were with the performance they were getting. Yes, the engine will have been optimized greatly for 360, PS3 and PC since then, but the game WAS in developement and the engine was running on PS3 hardware at the time Gears of War was first shown. So please BrendanL, get your facts right first. ;) Hence I repeat, Cliffy B NEVER said this, and I await the link from those who still claim that he did.
Nothing lost from dreaming. It would have been nice if it was implemented. As for PC players being cheaters, that's sorta weighted out by server administration. Also, PS3 versions have aiming help. I just wish the game would come out this year. November, please.
Kinda just to show some people it can be done, and it'd be cool playing with non-console players. Nice idea and I hope they add it later on when it releases. + yea.. im pretty sure its coming this year.
Cross platform is nice for friends who don't all have the same console. I've got a ps3, and I have 2 friends, one with a PC and one with a 360. It would be cool to be able to play online with them.
I would love to play against console players, too. Any platform. ^_^
well that kinda sucks. i was actually looking forward to PC/PS3 play since theres not going to be any PC/360 play. oh well. just have to go back to beating up other PC players. and for the record. UT3 will be best on the PC. and anyone who thinks otherwise is a *****ing moron.
