You probably could have figured this out yourself, but if you need confirmation, we have it. Mortal Kombat franchise creator Ed Boon has revealed that Mortal Kombat 8 was scrapped.

The story was different in a Midway event last year when Boon said that his team is working on the eight installment to the celebrated franchise. He even gave a few details such as the franchise going back to the basics and sporting a "darker and grittier" look.

Of course, we all know that the deal with Detective Comics was sealed and we now have Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3) inbound. Thus, Boon's posse is focusing on that one instead of a new sequel for the celebrated fighting game series.
