PlayStation Home - Image 1It's been rumored about, it's been promised off-handedly... now some real confirmation. PlayStation Home director Jack Buser has confirmed that open beta will be arriving within the month.

This follows what TedTheDog said ("...don't fret, you'll all be Home by Christmas") and what John Koller mentioned (that the launch was "imminent"). Now we're hearing from Jack Buser. If there's anyone who knows what's what, it's him.

Too bad he didn't give an exact date for the launch though.

We've been saying it will launch by the end of calendar year 2008. And that's getting very, very close. Launch is imminent.

.
Heh. Famous last words. Didn't they say almost the same thing last year? Ah well, if it's coming, it's coming. And you better be ready.

to whom it may concern

i dunno if there still sending out invites or not, im sure they are, but go and download the home theme from the psn, its free and gives u a better chance of getting in. of course if the open beta is around the corner it shouldnt matter. but it is a free DL and can always be deleted. as for the releases soon, im in the beta and the new message of the day says something to the effect of, we will be getting some info on a new event to be held within home. maybe a welcoming party? i dunno i spose ill get on home this morning an see if its changed or not and maybe put the actual message up.

.

I'm thinking it will be released by Christmas that way it'll be like a present for everyone, as for this week's event i don't have a clue as what it might be, and the message of the day is still the same, so in just a few days we'll see. Hopefully its something big, maybe another update, ever since i got Home I've been excited to see what improvements will be in the open beta.

it seems like it's not ready

I use the beta every weekend when i go home, and it's a pretty good diversion when it's working right. A big problem that's going on right now is connectivity. I'm not sure if it's just my connection, but it would disconnect from the service with different error messages practically every 15 minutes. It was particularly bad last Saturday where I couldn't stay connected for longer than 10. Has anyone else with the beta come across this problem?

Jack Buser...

Now why did I think that he said Jack Bauer? Anyway, while I am looking forward to the Open Beta release (The current closed beta is just so limited), the amount of idiotic people (and underage children) that will download it worries me. Although no doubt it will be moderated furiously.

hopefully,

i think once they sort out their picture frames, and streaming video player to home, then it might be released after that!

i have a VEEEERY strong feeling...

that once home DOES go live, there's going to be so much traffic and congestion that the servers will crash as soon as it goes up. it happened to LBP. it can happen to home. especially since home is free and everyone with a ps3 has access to it.
