Think the UK might still be reeling after the whole Manhunt 2 debacle? The Advertising Standards Authority has banned an advert for Condemned 2: Bloodshot (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3) for being too violent. The advert showed "graphic and brutal violence, which, although computer-generated, were realistic in appearance."

The ASA has received no less than nine complaints on the advert, which showed "a man punching another on the floor and blood splattering on the screen as a man was beaten with a club" (as described the the ASA's ruling). The ad was considered "offensive and distressing, and to see then as condoning real violence and cruelty."

In defense, Sega Europe said that Condemned 2 was a horror game, and that it had received an 18 classification from the BBFC. The advert was shown during a time slot that's considered most suitable for the game's target audience (after 9 p.m., and after 11p.m.). They also argued that they regularly approve other approved adverts that contained "far more violence."

Despite the defense though, it was ruled that the advert cannot be broadcast again in their current form. Perhaps Sega will decide to clean it up a bit before re-releasing it. But for you guys, we dug up the original one. Think it's too violent?

» Ooooooooooooooohhh!

Scary!

The making of this advert was available on the PSN months ago!

Anyway, the ASA are so random with their rulings - useless nobs.

And this, again, is another example of the minority ruining it for the majority. I presume 10s of thousands of people saw the advert, and 9 people complained (probably with nothing better to do), and based on those 9 people, the advert's been pulled!

» Not too violent.

This commercial was on television here in Canada. There's nothing wrong with it.

» um

NO ***** this was banned from our TV!

That is exactly like something out of a horror movie.

Who ever thinks this is okay for 5 - 15 year old children to watch then there is something seriously wrong with you.

» Wow.

A little too conservative are we? There's nothing wrong with this commercial... ESPECIALLY for a 15 year old. What's wrong with you?

» @Izuna

I'm from the UK and I can't see the problem.

It's no worse than a 15 cert movie - and if you let a kid the age that you stupidly pulled out of the air, stay up that late (past the watershed), then you're the one who has something seriously wrong with them!

» time slots

they were aired during time slots with the least chance that minors will be watching.

advertising companies won't show them at a time when mostly kids are watching, not only will it scare the kids, but they aren't their market at all. they want to sell it to young adults and older, which is who the ads were intended for. that's why the adverts were shown during the evening.

there have been scarier and more violent ads shown before, so i don't see why this should be any different.

i think the issue is why it was singled out amidst a lot of other equally, or even more, mature-themed adverts. it was probably the whole manhunt 2 thing, maybe a part of the UK population still has violent-video-game-paranoia.

» advert malfunction

so less than .001% of the viewing public complains and action must be taken...

i thought the US govt were the only ones stupid enough to pull ***** like this...

this almost makes me think the FCC was being reasonable about janet's tit...
