Concept borrowing and ten things you didn't know about Heavenly Sword |
Ó
As mentioned around a week ago, the folks over at GamePro.com are doing a week's worth of Heavenly Sword features in order to pimp, er, celebrate their Heavenly Sword covered issue. Their latest feature notes ten things the average gamer might not know about the storyline of the upcoming PlayStation action-fest by Ninja Theory, Heavenly Sword.
Included in their list is the fact the Nariko, the heroine, is dying. From the moment the game opens she only has hours to live. This is because only Gods can wield the Heavenly Sword without ill effects. In order to prevent the constant depletion of her life meter in gameplay, you the gamer, must constantly try to run into life saving (sometimes threatening) combat.
While they say that this helps focus on the swordplay and not on puzzles or platform-jumping, doesn't this life draining away concept sound awfully similar to the Dark Prince in Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones?
Ah. More proof that concept borrowing between platform-action games is only healthy and only moves the genre forward. Take for example the boss battles in PoP:TTT and it's similarity to God of War "hero" sequences, or the "time slow" power in God of War II. It's all about implementation really.
Since Nariko has a problem with the Heavenly Sword, maybe Kratos can help her with that? We're not quite sure that Kratos will help will King Botham and his Sacred Genitals.
For their complete list of Heavenly Sword factoids, feel free to head to it via our "read" link below.

The next time I see a "Ten things you don't know about [insert game title here]" there had better be atleast 1 thing I didn't know. F*ck, anyone following the game knows all that crap.
why would you use Prince of Persia? In PoP you had to become the dark prince for your life meter to diminish. In this game her life is constantly on the decline...by a sword. So if that's the case, you should have used Shinobi for the PS2. Which by the way was frickin awesome.
The whole "borrowed" spiel was totally relevant and businessman-like. Very professional. Next are we gonna hear about how the "n00bs" at Bungie need to finish Halo 3? Or how j00 t07@lly pwnd c@mp3rz OMG?
Yes. Shinobi was fun. It's just that PoP was the first to come to mind. Perhaps it's the art style of Heavenly Sword and the use of the light bloom effect. Perhaps it's the presence of the many shades of yellows and browns...
I wasted my time on the same stuff that this site had already reported on.
Sad how you watch one game so closely. Aren't that many good games coming out soon?
