The folks over at 1Up are stirring up quite a brew in the PS3 and Xbox 360 blog-o-spheres. It's kind of like taking skeletons out of the closet and fanning them out to dry for the whole neighborhood to see. Pulling a stunt like this will surely cause heads to turn and people's jaws to drop in a disfigured manner.What are we talking about here? Well, the new EGM has this on the cover: "Metal Gear Solid 4 on Xbox 360?" While we do know that Hideo Kojima said a year ago that this wouldn't happen, what could be EGM's reason to bring this old issue out in the open again? What evidence do they have to support this? It could be possible though, considering that MGS2 eventually came to the original Xbox, but more than this... How do we know that Solid Snake's doing a 360?
Should both the PS3 and 360 communities be reacting violently/enthusiastically about this? We're picturing something like:
- PS3 fan: No! That can't be! MGS is ours! It's exclusive to Sony!
- 360 fan: Go, Kojima! Come over to the dark side!
- Wii fan: I want my Cooking Mama!

What does the article say? You can't just give us a headline without the details of the article. Of course QJ would know just a look at the headline would stirr up trouble and of course views.
Until I see the article itself, I can't say much.
Metal Gear Solid made its name on the Playstation, therefore it should ALWAYS remain a Playstation franchise.

It's just a rumor that's all it is. A way to sell more magazines. Hideo Kojima said it himself the they wouldn't. He spoke of making other games for the 360 but he was very clear about Metal Gear Solid not going to the 360.
So did Grand Theft Auto but now it's on 360 when it comes out.
kojima said that he COULD make the game for the 360, however he also said that he could make it for the wii too....it would just be a much different game. MGS will stay w/ sony...kojima on the otherhand....he may jump ship

I mean, the xbox 360 is an upgrade of the old xbox, nothing more. only more graphics, nothing new, the same old stuff on the console, and why?? I mean, M$ is really gay, they could have installed winXP on their system, it would have cost them nothing, man I really hate M$ for that... Also, where is the new stuff? the same XBL, yeah xbl is cool, but we still have to pay? ps: the ps3 will have linux yellow dog who can even emulate mac os X and winXP. It can play BD of 53gigs for movies and games ( some launch games already use 20gig and more... ). You can play PS1, PS2, PS3 games, emulate any other older consoles ( from NES to N64 and even PS1 and surely also PS2 on linux or winXP with ISOs and ROMs ). You can plug a keyboard and mouse to chat with your friend, browse the net while listening to your favorite songs, or simply watch a slide show of your pics on your tv still while listening to musics. The games are better and the control is unique, it's not at all the wii ( wii is 100% imagination, creativeness and motion sensing control ) nor the xbox 360 ( x360 is nothing out of the ordinary, still the same old gamepad... ). The ps3's controls are a mix ( PS2 dualshock2 without rumble ( ~_~ ) but with motion sensing "Ã la" wii! so the controls are special and will be used in games I suppose like loco roco ( tilt right or left ), katamari damacy ( move your ball ), driving games ( to turn or activate boosts ) and even FPS, like fall of man ( you shake your controller to shake off ennemies that grabs you ). I mean, the ps3 is perfect ( but I won't buy it before I know if there is problems with the 1st batch... I mean, my ps2 is from the 1st batch, my I know x360 had a lot of BIG problems and I'm sure the same will happen to the ps3... So I'll have mine around april ( with the great games and also singstar for my sisters ( 300 songs plus a lot more you can download ).

Even when you go to "The Real Cover" link it still leads you to EGM's cover shown in this article. Though, I do have some speculation about why the 360 would be getting a game that Hideo Kojima himself said, "Can't be done on the XBox." But if it is on the 360, that's a whole lot of dissapointment. Much like Oblivion for the PS3 instead of it being exclusive, and let's not forget the outburst of Assassins Creed exclusivity, later proved false. (I think everyone saw that coming though).
I love how you assume the linux on the PS3 will be fully functional and run roms and such....you really thing sony is going to allow that out of the box ? If they were so keen on that Idea why do they shut the PSP down at every turn ?
You can also say that the PS3 is an upgraded PS2, and downgraded in someways (no rumble). How is it so revolutionary ? Everything is just bigger and better then the PS3....and you can't say sh*t about the online, because you have not tried it, and it only seems like a big deal because Sony has never had any type of online system before....so yeah Sony's biggest improvement is something that the orignal xbox launched with 5 or so years ago.....wtg....

This is no official announcement. It coincides with their 1UP Yours Podcast. In this podcast, they talked about exclusives, and their games. They talked about MGS4, and how they believe it will be released in the 360 a year after PS3. Much like MGS2 and substance. Stop freaking out.
MGS 2 came out for xbox, It seems propable that it would come to 360, albeit at later date

MGS is not a 1st party title, if it was 1st party then they wouldnt have come with xbox and gamecube versions.

First of all, what revolutionary did sony do MS or Nintendo didnt. The Linux support? In all fairness, my console is placed on the ground, near a tv, with the only table close being a very low one. To use a keyboard and mouse would be extremely unusefull. I'd really rather use my private PC for those features. The reason Sony is using an OS and MS isnt is the reason you state: MS allready has an OS. They're not going to abandon the PC. They have a monopoly on OSes, why would they put it for free on their console. its better to just upgrade PCs to Vista and make full use of it there and keep the console for gaming. Sony however, doesnt have an OS so they hope to steal customers from their competitor (MS) which is absolutely logical. You can clearly see MS is aiming at cross platforms between PC and 360. To them, the OS, internet etc is supposed to be on the pc, and the gaming on xbox. Sony has to do that in one machine, which has pros (you just have to buy one thing0 and cons (I dont like to play console games from behind my desk)
Also, MS brought some features to this generation that Sony is fully taking advantage of. The Xbox Guide Button for example. Sony uses it, and it wasnt on the banana controller shown earlier. Sony also wants to have an arcade like function, and im quite sure they did that because it was such a hit on xbox. Also, they are finally stepping into the internet generation. Yes it's free, but quite some things are still unclear. At the moment it apears Sony will host servers for its own games and for the Sony Store, and other compagnies have to put up their own servers. We know from PC gaming that this CAN work, but as was clear on PS2 network, it can also fail. Playstation 2 network was the biggest in the world, yes still MS had much better support. That support is what you pay for. its not cheap, i know, but there are millions of people paying Blizzard to keep the WOW servers running, so what's so strange about paying for a massive server like xbox live. To host 4 million people, it just requires lots of money. Its not like an UT server that is made for one game.. the 360 server has to run every game. it costs money, but it makes development easier, which is better for us gamers eventually.
Which brougth me to another point where MS shows good support: to its developers. You might not notice it, but good support allows for faster and more efficient developement. Sony has always been known for bad support, while MS and Ninty give a lot (think XNA)
and last but not least, the PS3 controller. To me it sounds gimmicky, just to get some people who want to develop for Wii to PS3. While the controller only supports about 8 directions. To me it sounds like a bad rip off. Something Sony has been doing for years now: Waiting for someone else to test it and then use it themselves, and acting like it was all their idea while they just reinvented the wheel.
Oh and offcource Ms wants to make money, what the hell do you think Sony wants. if they just wanted you to have fun they would give you the PS3 for free. We live in a capitalistic world, face it. Its always the same, acting like MS is the only compagny in the world that tries to make profit. Grow up for a change.
Hideo Kojima said that Metal Gear Solid would stay with PlayStation (though other games can be on 360 and Wii) because it never sold as well on the other console platforms.
And "as the PlayStation grows, so will Metal Gear Solid, along with it".
Also, it probably wouldn't sell that well initially on the Xbox 360./Sony would sooo dish out cash to keep a hold on MGS.
Anyways, just because the remake of MGS2 was on the Xbox and PC, doesn't mean that they sold well or that the chances are high for it to happen again.
Example: MGS3 and it's remake were both PlayStation-only.
So, can we finally stop discussing this sort pointless topic?
1. PS3 OS is based on linux thats all...

3. It is stand alone OS so will run any software that runs under Linux...

He wants the game to sell. There are 2 problems.
1)The PS3 is going to sell very few console, especially inintially. And they want to make a profit.
2)The 360 is already (somewhat) deployed.
You now see why exclusivity is just a form of monopoly.
Development for the next gen consoles is NOT cheap by any means. it costs millions of dollars to develop for the ps3 and xbox 360. they would recover those development costs faster with multiple platforms.

I also recall Hideo saying that he was tired of the MGS series after the third one, and that he wasnt going to do any more of them. A year later we had teaser trailers for MGS4. Then he says that MGS will remain a Playstation title... after already releasing MGS1, 2 and 3(?) for Xbox. Now a year later and that lame ass PS3 still isnt in stores.
Hideo is a cool guy. I can imagine him sitting at his desk, with his feet up, drumming his fingers on the desk. He is getting tired of waiting for the PS3, while the 360 is out there, easy to code for, and has some really cool features.

To make MGS4 on the 360?, and it would also need a new controller like the sixaxis for the new movements. It could be done, but Kojima would have to sacrifice a lot of the innovations already planned for the PS3 version. Besides, I also recall a magazine claiming that they played ZOE3 and you know how that ended up. EGM is doing the same thing. Have you noticed that they are asking MGS3 on XBOX360? they are not confirming it. It's simple marketing guys.

Metal Gear Solid 3 is not on the Xbox and never will. Even if he were to release Metal Gear Solid 4 on the 360 they would have to downgrade the graphics and cut out a lot of stuff just to be able to fit it into a DVD9. And I remember reading somewhere(can't find the link) that the game takes around 25 GB (compressed) on the Blu-Ray disc. Meaning that if MGS4 was released on 360 it would have to be three to four DVD9s. Just like Gears of War.
Metal Gear Solid 3 is not and never will be available on the Xbox. Simple as that.
Final Fantasy made its name knowned on the NES and SNES...then went to sony.

I have a 360 and I love enjoying the next generation before these fools, but I'll happily buy a PS3 if it lives up to it's reputation (and maybe even a Wii, as I love my DS) but from what footage and screens I've seen so far I see no real improvement over the 360.

The only real advantage of exclusives - from the gamer's perspective - is that they tend to make better use of their platform (since the designers do not have to take into account limitations of other platforms). Other than that, I'm not into this "this is ours, don't do it for the others" crap in general. I've had it with the "we're kings of the world, you customers do our bidding, or eat dust"-attitude of all three major players in the gaming market.
Competition is healthy, and recent developments clearly show that Sony needs to and deserves to get their ass kicked once in a while (that said, I'm a long-term Playstation owner and M$-hater, just to avoid misunderstandin gs). So, yes, Kojima, bring it on, I'm all for it. Sony has become too comfortable over the last years, someone needs to put some heat on them.

It has been stated that MGS3 is around the 20gig mark (of which all the people slagging off blu-ray should realise, it is needed) so how on earth are they going to strip a 20+gig game down to fit a DVD9 disc? It'd end up being a very gimped version compared to Sonys.
All this rubbish about people comparing PS3 to 360 is stupid. There both completely different with different architecture. Yes, the PS3 is more powerful and is more "next gen" compared to 360, yet so was the xbox wen compared to ps2, and we all know how well the ps2 did when up against the superior xbox.
Infact i think the only reason people slag ps3 off is because of its price point. It would be funny to see what would happen if it launched at the same price as the 360, see if it got the same comments.
The 360 hasnt been a huge success thus far, and if its going to be, its really got to do well over christmas. But with the relatively cheap Wii and its legion of hardcore fans, and with PS3 with is huge, huge userbase (for ps1+ps2) along with its well known brandname and juggernaught power, the 360 will have a huge fight on its hands.
Next time, try coming up with a list of actual facts.
-The Cell processor being different to the 360's processor DOES NOT PREVENT A PORT.
- MGS4 (or any other game) isn't doing anything with the SIXAXIS that cannot be replicated in a different form on a standard controller.
- The size of the game has yet to be known, but whatever it is, the structure of the MGS games makes them suitable for multiple DVD disks.
- Your movie theater/dvd movie/tv program arguement makes no sense.
- If it gets released on 360, it has every possibility of looking as 'eye-popping' as the PS3 version, since the PS3 is only slighly more powerful.
The ONLY real fact here is that MGS4 is currently a PS3 exclusive, and therefore suggestions of a 360 version is pure conjecture, as is the reasons you and other gamers give for why it couldn't be ported to the 360.

The game that Hideo didn't like or work on was Snakes Revenge for the nes. This game, admittedly, has nothing to do with the overall Metal Gear Saga. The original Metal Gear for NES has Hideo's name on it, though. He did have something to do with that game...

There are faulty 360's out there! Even if you had a 100 friends with no problems on their 360s, that doesn't mean the problem doesn't exist. Of course, many like to exaggerate the extent of the problems, but just the same, they DO exist.
As for Sony copying ideas - Why don't you spend some time right now to try think of your OWN design for a next-gen console WITHOUT copying ANY existing ideas, including the controller. And also, try doing the same for your console's online service.

The Metal Gear series had been on the NES and MSX 2. There was Metal Gear Solid 2 on the Xbox and the remake Metal Gear Solid:Twin Snakes on the Gamecube, not to mention also handhelds and the pc.

actually, metal gear made its debut on msx which belonged to microsoft japan. Kojima created the game for the msx and in an interview said that he didn't like the nes version because it was to... easy. As known, he called snakes revenge trash and refused to let that game fall in his portfolio. So if you guys are playing side on who belongs where, microsoft based system was where kojima first made his name.
To all concerned MGS and its characters are the intelectual property of Konami and they can do what ever they wish with it. Also the games aspect of the PS3 is really just a cover to get blueray into as many households as possible to trully monopolize not just games but video entertainment as a whole.

Who cares about system sales? As long as good games are coming out for the 360, I couldn't care who owns one. I will be owning a PS3 and a 360.
But system sales dont matter to me...thats why I'd rather play my PSP then a DS...DS out sells PSP, does it mean that its a better system? no...

and about the whole controller copying thing. I didn't see anyone complaining about the bumpers...so like xbox can move two buttons to the top of a controller but sony can't create a button in the center of the controller that lets you go HOME, much like the psp?

The PS3 will not only have Japanese third party exclusivity, and have mulitplatform games shared between Microsoft, but they will also have an ever growing list of First party titles from it's many, many development subsidiaries. And just to be fair, compare the ratio of good scoring Microsoft games, to good scoring Sony games. Bioware and Bungie games aren’t just going to cut it anymore.

As for your semi-sortof-not really correct argument about multiple disks, storage medium has more to do with games than just getting up to change them. Let me put it this way, could Final Fantasy VII have been done on previous consoles? I'm not 100% sure but it was snes and genesis right? Point is, every single successor to a previous console had more power, more capabilities, and more STORAGE. Those friggin awesome cg cut scenes couldn't have been done on the snes.
As for the GTAIII comment, GTA III could not have been GTA III without the dvd. So with every island you're going to switch disks? How bout factoring in the radio stations? cut scenes? I’ll be completely honest, I can’t imagine 360 GTA IV resembling the PS3’s version to the fullest. Infact, If they were to be identical, I would assume the world wouldn’t be bigger than san andreas because of the storage deficiency of a certain system.

One of the best games last gen was RE4 on the GC, and that game came on two disks, and yet it didn't spoil the enjoyment for anyone who played the game.

If Blu-ray offered 100 times it's current capacity, would you assume the game worlds in PS3 games will become 100 times the size? It takes time and money to create content, so stop assuming everything would automatically be bigger and better because of Blu-ray.
Secondly, both versions of GTA IV will feature downloadable content. Hence the FULL game could come on two disks on the 360 at most (+16GB, same size as Resistance) and one Blu-ray disk for the PS3. Once the game is released, the devs now have extra time to work on additional content for the game world in the form of downloads, some exclusive to the 360 (for those with a HDD), some exclusive to the PS3, and probably some common to both.
By the time GTA V is ready for release, GTA IV fans will have a game much larger than the original game, with extra content which probably would have taken too long and cost too much to put onto one Blu-ray disk at a reasonable price, i.e. a game which has grown over time.
Hence the assumption that DVD would mean the game will be limited in both versions is rather narrowminded.

PC developers have been using compression for years and pc games look great, microsoft is just using that technology for xbox 360 games because a bluray or hddvd drive would have made the xbox 360 too expensive. Crysis for the PC is the perfect example it is the best looking game out there period, better looking than any playstation 3 game and its going to ship on DVD, do some of you guys even realize that playstation 3 may not be $300 until 2009 maybe 2010

....but pc decompresses data onto a hard drive from the disc, home consoles dont have that ability to do that to the extent a PC would.
And while i agree that multiple discs is ok, nobody has thought about the development costs to mass produce a game like that over two/three discs. Game development is crazy enough as it is with costs without the added extras being placed ontop

MGS is a great franchise, dont be so damn selfish and let some others play your games too.
One game wont make that much of a difference, PS3 does have a fanbase along with Wii and 360, but that what makes each system unique and why i want all of them

daz you said....but Pc decompresses data onto a (hard drive) from the disc, I say you a right, but the xbox 360 decompresses data onto (it's 512 Megabyte of ram) from the disk, no matter how much storage you have wether on a disk or a harddrive on pc or console you play the game (bit by bit through RAM), therefore, xbox 360 does not require the harddrive, with the harddrive you have caching for faster loads thats the only benefit.

one of the greatest game series out there and you say it sucks... well I guess it is hard to get everything MGS has to offer from it when you can't see the screen with your head so far up your ass.
Sony can take a walk. If you were producing one of the biggest releases of 2007, would you want to release it on a system that has only 2-4 million systems sold? 12-14 million sold? Or both?
Konami is Smart to consider the option. Metal Gear is next year, so let them consider. I want my Gears of War now. So should you.
