We've been hearing reports of Bayonetta's PS3version being somewhat less than impressive compared to its Xbox 360 counterpart for the past few weeks now. Was Sega's porting job really shoddy? Gametrailers has tried to give gamers a look at the differences with a Bayonetta comparison video.

Gametrailers hasn't been above controversy when it comes to comparison videos like this, but it does seem like the game's colors are more vibrant on the Xbox 360 side. Can't comment on the framerate since videos tend to skip when I watch them on this old hunk of junk PC I have. What about you guys? What's the verdict?

» I don't get it

There's some odd blurring effect on the PS3 that's not indicative of lower texture quality however it's clearly having a detrimental effect on the contrast. Otherwise I don't see a single different both frame rates and model details seemed on par to me.

This reminds me of the ghost buster game and them choosing to use a more efficient AA for the PS3 that caused similar results (whereas you get a free x2 AA with the 360).

They either couldn't optimise their texture memory enough for normal AA or Microsoft paid them to make it suck, which I wouldn't put past them.

xbox looks better ps3 looks foggier and the colors dont stand out as much

the xbox version does look better but i really dont see that much of a difference. i dont c anything wrong with the ps3 version, just cuz the xbox version is better looking that dont make the ps3 version automatically crap/un-playable.

the way i c it is most multiplatform games look better on 360, thats because 1)the 360 is much easier to develop for time+money wise and its more easier to understand than the ps3, so its bound to have better results. 2) the developers have to make the games fair. if you look at the developers of the new final fantasy they had to take out some stuff out of the ps3 version because it simply wouldn't/couldn't hold on the 360 version, so they took it out which helps the 360 version even more.

but when it comes to EXCLUSIVES there is simply no comparison, PS3 WINS HANDS DOWN. look at games like killzone 2, uncharted 2, god of war 3, MAG, GT 5, infamous, resistance 2 and one of THE BEST SPORTS GAME EVER... MLB 09 THE SHOW!!!! those games blows away anything xbox has. those games show that if mutiplatform developers spend more time learning about the ps3 they will get far better results from the ps3 version.

hate it or love it thats the true and you know i'm right.

» Hmmm

Colors are better on 360, but that's nothing adjusting TV settings can't change on the PS3. No other differences really

To the guy above me, I love Infamous great game, but it's gfx and detail are really nothing to brag about, not sure what you're smoking if you think it looks better than anything on Xbox...

» WTF?!?!?!?!?

Who the hell rated this guy down? He's right f*****s.

@deadlyangel91792 and Scribe

YOu 2 need to watch the HD version and you can easily tell the difference. The 360 has better color and textures.

» hmm

I suck at making these comparisons but yeah all I saw was worse colors on the PS3 and the occasional jitter on something.

Oh well, it's sort of expected nowadays anyway

PS3 has a blurry/darker color.

It's the gameplay that couts, right?

"Who the hell rated this guy down?"

Easy, PS3 Fanboys. Just ignore the stars, no matter how much the post is true, if it is against their console, then it will get a low vote.

people still belive GT for video comparison ??? funny

by Shatterdome - 2009-10-12 16:12
» yup...

It is most likely the quincunx anti-aliasing. From the games that i've seen that use QAA, i'd rather have no AA and more polys.

Beyond 3D has a good post with information as well as almost every PS3/360 game, it's real resolution and what type of AA it uses.

360 never uses QAA, but it is interesting that even though it can get "free" 2X AA that many games still do not do it.

might have to change the '+' to an equals *sigh*

» Hmm

Having played both, the PS3 is darker/edges are blurrier. Also, the framerate does stutter a bit at certain points. To top it off, there is a lot of screen tearing. Which is my biggest complaint.

Honestly, though, the framerate drop isn't crippling or anything. In fact, sometimes its kinda useful as it only really becomes an issue when you're getting right into the thick of a huge group. It sorta helped with my timing. There are some good posts elsewhere with direct frame comparison between the two. (On the gametrailers forums there are some good links/info.)

» WTF??!?!?!

this damn generation is so damn dependant on graphics...I don't even know what happened with just being happy with good games anymore. Its just so damn stupid that all most people really check for is the graphics...sorry for the rant

by yaoitaru - 2009-10-12 19:53

i don't really care.. they both look good.

i was gonna pirate it on 360 anyways. I win.

by Xerosigma - 2009-10-12 20:51
» Idiots....

Ummm they oviously dont know how to work a PS3..... PUT THE RGB RANGE TO FULL! It makes it look alot better. Thats why it looks so gray and blurry. Try it.

by rollypoly - 2009-10-12 23:10
» meh

so the colors look slightly different... i doubt i'd be able to tell without a split screen. did the devs intend for it to be darker? or more colorful? without that info this comparison is useless.

i don't get why it's such a big deal. if a split screen comparison is necessary, then this is nothing but fanboy fodder.

if you are making a decision to purchase a system based on a multi-platform title's slight edge in graphics, you are making a choice for the wrong reasons.

it's fun to see that always the unimportant and bad games are looking better on Xbox 360. Good games are looking good on both platforms. ( GTA4, DMC4, Batman...)

That shows that devs who really make good games can handle the graphics on both platforms. In contrary, devs who can't make good graphics on both platforms are most likely to develop bad games in general, too.

Best games are exclusives, anyway. Best graphics, best controls, and best gameplay. (PS3 or Xbox 360,PC)

by Bountyhunter53 - 2009-10-13 05:11
» Ditto

I agree. I hate when they don't use the optimal settings and use the defaults.

by Azrael_666 - 2009-10-13 08:16
» my 2 cents...

the ps3 version has more lower res textures, is slightly blurry, and the framerate DOES dip (i have the demo on my ps3). it dips during the cutscene when the giant monster comes out of the ground, compared to the 360's smooth framerate there, and it dips when you do the finisher (it actually lags behind when she's summoning the head, when her hair flies up into the air and smashes into the ground, but it ends up finishing the move faster than the 360 version, odd huh). its no way unplayable, but honestly it could look exactly like the 360 version, and run the same too if the devs put more time into optimizing the game for ps3.

by NarooN - 2009-10-13 09:01
» .

Everyone here is just talking about the color, not actual framerate, performance, etc.

For the PS3 version, they probably didn't set RGB Range to FULL. It makes a big difference.

Game doesn't look too hot anyway. It's just Devil May Cry with some dike woman. My bro's getting it on 360 so I'll judge it after I play it.

by rollypoly - 2009-10-13 10:24
» huh?

why is the ps3 not set to full rgb range by default?

is there some logical reason?

i can't fault them for using out of the box settings, as most people probably just hook it up and go (as a console should IMO).

by Master Chef - 2009-10-13 12:37
» o I forgot about that

That could be it, PS3 looks way better with the color setting changed to that. maybe GT isn't using it

by GUNBEHINDTHESUN - 2009-10-13 17:40
» The Contrast Looks Off

That's all I could tell. Maybe the tv settings are not prime for PS3.

by Xerosigma - 2009-10-13 18:29
» because

The reason its on limited by default is because if u dont have an HDTV it will look really bad and blurry if i remember correctly. Its only for HDTVs with HDMI. LOL about the dike part haha

by rollypoly - 2009-10-13 18:56
» hmm

well i never knew that... too bad i got rid of my hdtv.

i wonder why the ps3 doesn't auto detect that and set it for you...

by NarooN - 2009-10-13 21:59
» .

The PS3 doesn't auto-detect it because of many possible situations. Such as switching between HDTVs or different models without HDMI, etc.

Then idiots would start crying about that, too.

You can hold the front power button for like 10 seconds or something and the PS3 will auto-detect and automatically setup your entire video/audio settings depending on what the system is hooked into.

Would you pick the chick with an amazing personality (gameplay) but is damn ugly (graphics) or the one with amazing personality and is also hot ?

by Bountyhunter53 - 2009-10-14 13:26
» LOL

They always leave it on the washed out defaults.

by MagilsugaM - 2009-10-18 23:47
» No full hdmi range + qAA = blurry washed out colours.

The texture itself is not lower is the qAA that makes the game quite blurry and technically washes out all the texture detail.. is just pointless i rather have no AA at all. Resident evil 5 didn't have any and it looked just as good.
