Thumbstick emplacement on Xbox crontrollet is nice, but the D-Pad on PS3 is priceless, not to mention built-in Li-ion batteries (reachargeable with Usb-mini cable). Both are okay, his paycheck is probably more attractive with Mircrosoft behind the scene, so he won't bash his boss.

For certain games

When it comes to games that take quick reaction and good aim, like FPS, the 360 controller is way ahead. I never could get used to the awkward layout of the PS sticks, or the flat triggers. Doesn't suit itself to most games IMO. The 360 controller is one of the best ever anyway, but if it had a decent d-pad nothing could touch it.

I was just remarking to my buddy the other day that I thought the PS3 controller (DualShock 3) is as close to perfect as possible. All personal preference though.

X360 Controller Hurts

Personally the only other controller worse than any of the Xbox controllers was the Dreamcast controller. Both of them physically hurt my hands to play. Of course the fact that I was so comfortable with the original DualShock, moved to DS2, and then DS2, does have a lot to do with that. Button positioning as well as analog stick positions on the X360 controller just don't work for my big hands. DualShock 3 is as good as it gets for me. Most sports games I couldn't even consider anything other than a DualShock.

I also hate the *****ing PS3 controller. I don't like the built in battery on the PS3 controller because the only way to charge it is through the PS3, can't charge it in any other way. Also, whenever I have my PS3 unplugged (moving purposes) and I accidentally press the PS button, the damn thing will blink till who knows when. The main 2 things I hate about the PS3 controller is the thumbsticks and the L2/R2 triggers. The thumbstick have little grip because it is convex. Had they been concave, then there would've been a way better grip. @ Master Chef LOL fanboys rated your comment down because you spoke the truth. The ps3 controller does seem light, the dual shock 3 with the added weight feels better. Hey Kojima the ps3 isnt the only thing that charges the PS3 controller. Your PC can charge it too....I do it all the time when my battery gets low and i dont feel like leaving my PS3 on. Oh and I think the placement of the analong sticks PS controller are a lot nicer when it comes to moving the character and the camera at the same time.

Playstation has the best controllers. The Xbox and Playstation 3 controllers both are charged the same way. Playstation 3 controllers charge lasts longer, and doesn't wiegh 4lbs. You can't take the battery out of the PS3 controller and put it in a dock to charge when your out at work or some other place, you have to keep it plugged into the PS3 when it is on, which is what I do and leave the console on Life with Playstation. A 360 user can take the battery out and plug it into a dock and charge or even use 2 AA batteries. What are you going to do when you get home with an almost dead PS3 controller, you play as close to the console which (in most cases) is close to the tv.

My mate charges his PS3 controller on his Mac. Anything with a USB 2 socket will charge it. I've even charged it up on my Wii before now, ready for a COD4 all-nighter :)

my opinions have changed over the years...

At first, I thought the PlayStation controller was perfect. It fit my hands, had the perfect layout and just felt right. Now, I sometimes feel like it's a little too small for my hands. I still prefer it over the 360 controller (which actually hurts my hands after a gaming marathon), but I think it would be nice to make a slightly larger version available (I have a problem with third-party peripherals for some reason, don't ask me why).

Analog Sticks

I was really surprised when Sony released the PS3 controller with the 2 sticks (L3/R3) - I think they're too long and get too slippery when having panic moments mid-game. I was really hoping they would incorporate the flat PSP analog disc-thing for L3/R3. To me, the design makes more sense; sliding/shifting them left and right for strafing, instead of pivoting a stick (that's too long)! Apart from that, I love my PS3 controllers. I've never played an Xbox 360, so can't really comment on the controllers, but another good thing about the 360 controllers is that they are supported by Games for Windows titles by default, which is cool. Oddly enough, I think the worst controller is for the Wii. I just don't think it works... yet. That's my 2 pence anyway.

Pretty much like charging it at a wall socket then... so long as it's on! I have a USB keyboard connected to my PS3 via a long USB cable, I then plug my PS3 controller into the USB socket on that. I have to disagree with you there, Matt. About the PSP analog 'nub'. I have never enjoyed that thing. It slips from my grip way to easily and gives my thumb a wicked cramp after only a half an hour or so. I don't think it would have been very productive to have it on the PS3 controller, it doesn't allow for precise movements, or so I've found. But... when it comes to the Wii controller... you're absolutely right, it doesn't work yet. And the 360 controller is just uncomfortable and cumbersome.

I'd rather have the PS3 thumbsticks that the PSP one. All that the PS3 thumbsticks need is to be concave for a better grip without sliding. They don't need to change the texture of the thumbsticks, it probably would help, but not needed.

HIDEO, just shut your mouth ok ? The dualshock has been around for over 10 years now, and there is a reason for that: It's design works. People have been crediting the DS for being a good controler for over a decade now. People who are yelling it sucks all of a sudden because of Analoge stick placement, well, I"d say they are a bit late with that. I support tdh in his opinion, I don't like the buttons on the Xbox controlers (including 360), neither do I like its D-pad, has a THird-Party PS controler feel to it.

HIDEO, let me tell you this, there are little devices which let you plug USB cable's in your powersocket, for exactly that reason ;) Just go and buy that, it doesnt have to be 'turned on', plug it in the power socker and plug ur DS3 in it, and there we go. Now just go and rant elsewhere

PS3 Pad pwns the 360s one

Since the 360 Pad was available i bought it to play on pc and i regret every day i did that. First of all the Design is to clumbsy, then the buttons have such a cheap feel, the analog Sticks are not that somooth like the DS3 ones. The should buttons are a crime to the mankind. I will never play Tomb Raider Legend on PC again. Have i mentionend the F**** sh***** D-Pad and PC-Drivers? DS3 PWNS the 360Pad in every way, even with its slippy shoulder buttons.

First of all, leaving you PS3 on Life with Playstation while charging the controller might help cure diseases like cancer one day. Using one-way batteries for your 360 soap bar will only ruin the envrionment. (Ok, exaggeration) Secondly- most computers can be configured to leave usb ports powered on when in standby or even tuirned off. This is done via BIOS.

Although I have to admit that I got veeeeery used to PS controllers, as I rarely used anything else, I still think the DS3 is the best. I often play the 360 with a friend of mine, but I don't seem to be able to get used to the controller. It just feels too big, too heavy, too bulky and also somehow cheap. The only thing I like better with the XBOX pad are its concave sticks - they give a much better grip (which I especially miss when playing SSDHD) Oh yeah and they could have made the battery pack replaceable, in case it starts to loose capacity after a few years, so you dont have to buy a new controller, but lets see how long it lasts.....

I have to agree that my thumb slips off the plastic PSP's one, but a rubber redesign would be loads better. Dude what is wrong with you, you dont make any points and just sound stupid. The PS controler has the best feel and functionality. Some people dont like it because it does not feel good in there hands but that does not make it a bad controler. It is still the best out of all the systems by far design wise. More erognomic than the Xbox, or al least for me. The Xbox just mad a veriation from the stupid dreamcast controler with a lot taken from the PS controler and added to it, all they did is take the form factor from the dreamcast and add the layout of the buttons from the ps and swap the dpad. All these conrolers are realy based on the snes controler anyways with analog sticks. As for the charging, I'm sure im not alone here in saying that a rechargable controler is still better than a regular batery powered one. You can use it while charging with any usb cable or just pay 12 dlls and get a freking wall charger. You spent 600 dlls on the system you can pay 12 to get a wall charger dumb ass. The only reason it is out selling is the price, nothing else, just wait until God of War, Final Fantasy, Little Big, Socom, Resistance, Kill Zone, etc come out to kick but. I really don't comprehend the nonsense over the 360 controller being 'better'. How is having the 2 analog sticks offset from each other 'better' than having them aligned the SAME for each hand? --I mean, do some people have their left thumbs sown between their middle- and forefingers? Because, if both hands are shaped the same way, then it only makes SENSE that both analog sticks are in the same position. .....And, as you say, the 360 control is a big, boaty thing that feels like it's about to slip out of your hands at any moment. The lightweight design of the DualShock3 (or Sixaxis) give the perfect long-play balance.

Middle Ground

Well I own both 360 and PS3 (I admit to being bias towards the 360) But I think the 360 controller has it nearly dead on, as long as you have the plug and play kit that is. I like the analog sticks having that grove, but I like the ps3's D pad much better then the 360's.

Have you ever played an Xbox or 360 FPS?

There's no way any sane person can say the DS is better for FPS than the 360 pad, and this is because of the offset thumbsticks. Maybe it's just different for different people, but as soon as I picked up an S controller for Xbox 1 I could tell the differene. The offset thumbtsicks are much easier to control

Meant to add that I suppose it doesn't matter much because PlayStation is not big on FPS, just giving an example. For the most part the DS is fine for everything else. Another part of the problem I think is that DS thumbsticks are too tall and too loose, making them more difficult to control in panic situations.

10 years, competitors had no choice but to immitate(deform) it. 10 years and NOW they complain. DS2 brought the pressure sensitive buttons to the masses, infact ALL were sensitive including DPAD except START and SELECT. 360 is good for nothing except "shooters". Although i find it strange every shooter fan all of a sudden had 1 thumb lower than the other. As far as im aware, most of us have symetrical hands. MS, place ur RIGHT thumb stick as high as the LEFT and maybe the whining would be justified.

the only thing i agree with

is grooved analogues, the trigger and the shell formation being better. everything else is a mess. analogues are far more inferior in terms of fluidity and sensitivity. symetrical imo is MORE ERGONIC. action buttons too bumped(would suck for TEkken), RBLB too high, no pressure sensitive buttons and off course dpad. DS3 triggers imo the worst, 2nd concave analogues. everything else is perfect. Flat X,O,Sq,Tri, dpad....ALL being pressure sensitive.

Hideo Kojima, your opinion is fine, it is your own, and it is reasonably justifyable. I am so burned on the 360. The controller is awesome, a little heavy, and the two small clicky buttons are kinda wierd, need more feeling or something. Sorry for being an ass. Halo 3 was WAAY below what I expected. The next xbox console will probly erase all of the 360's MAJOR PROBLEMS. Until then, I will be angry with Microsoft. PS It will be overtime pay, lotto money, or some one elses cash that buys the next Xbox, I just dont trust THEM

I love the placing of the PS controller sticks, I can't get used to the asymmetry of the Xbox/gamecube controllers. L2 and R2 triggers do suck though. Also, built in Li-ion batteries are very nice, no lost battery packs or searching for AAs.

I LOVE the ps3 controller, like I always did with the other PS controller. I dislike the xbox controllers because of their d-pads, that sucks (You can't use them at all, it's impossible to press exactly the right direction... for battle games, the ps controller owns). The x360 controller also have.. AA batteries, wich is LAME!

Hey the PS3 Controller is great. R2 and L2 all u gota do is tap them dont have to press them all the way. and i chrage it on my PS3 its called hey i bought two controllers. and PS3 saves power by not charging when ur not playing or when its on. On a side note, I tested the Apple USB A/C plug and those jackholes from Apple switched the 5V output. Instead of the 5V coming out on the same pins as a PC (Xbox and PS3) they switched the pins. So, it can't be used to charge the PS3 controller. Jerks! However, I am able to use my Motorola car charger on the PS3 controller! Not sure why I would but hey, it works!
