Church of England demands big donation from Sony for Resistance: Fall of Man |
Listed in: PS3 Tags: BBC, Sony
Ó
Things are heating up between Sony and the Church of England. As a recap, the church wants Resistance: Fall of Man to be pulled out from the shelves. Offense was taken for using the holy place as a backdrop for the violent game, and relations to gun problems in Manchester have submerged.A meeting will finally be held on Monday by church officials to decide what actions to take against Sony, said spokesman David Marshall. What we know right now, however, is the list of demands they want from the big company.
Sony will be asked to send in their apologies, along with a huge part of the money earned by the game as donation. Other demands include pulling the game out the shelves or modifying the cathedral part, and supporting groups in Manchester that fight gun crimes.
Sony already made a statement on BBC, but it contained no formal apology. After calling the company "sick" and "sacrilegious," the Church of England wants donation from them. What's your take on this? Let's hear on the comments.

I swear... all we need now is the Pope saying the PS3's shape is blasphemy and the color is evil.

I have yet to meet a church ooer that wasn't a sinner. Hell, sometimes they are worse than the ones that dont' go to church. I came from a very christian country(Brazil) and everyone that I met in church were the biggest hipocrites ever. The church has turned me away from itself.
They must be really desperate. The sad thing is that they are making themselves look worse each time they open their mouth.

Hell, if sony made a game based where i live, i'd be like "WOOT! THIS IS AWESOME!"
OH, and not to mention the game is based like 50 years ago, who the hell cares! ITS JUST A GAME!!

and i would not give them a dime, they should say screw the church and keep going about there way, it seems like every one is trying to milk sony for money and none of them are legit causes. if the church can get money out of sony for that then i will just sew sony cause the game damaged me and made me evil... bla bla bla what ever, screw the pope .

If "money is the roots of all evil" then why does the church want it?

Furthermore, there's no way they could press legal charges...if that was true, the city of New York would be suing the crap out of Rockstar Games for GTA:IV. It's more of a moral/image decision on Sony's part. (Which I think they'll keep their money and tell the church to pray for fat joe to make it rain.)

Seriously, when ANY religion or faith says: "Hey, what you are doing is bad and you should stop" and then turn around and say "We'll look the other way and be quiet... IF you shell out some 'donations'" it is hypocritical to what they're supposed to stand for.
It's a 'shakedown', plain and simple. Just remember that there are bad people in any demographic, not just in one religion or another.

Not only that, but it's obviously not been played by those short sighted individuals making the complaint. If it had, then they would have realised that the use of the church is in context with the storyline of the game, and is'nt just placed there as a token 'shock' location...
What ever next - I know lets ban Elder Scrolls, after all the clergy get murdered at the alter in that!!!
Church people lighten up and pull your heads out from up your own arses for a change....!

Sony and Insommniac did a great job on the game, and it's clear who's in the wrong here.

but...
the Church of England has catholic traditions as well...and if they have catholic traditions they also have pegan traditions...
because the catholic church came from peganism...
you see all the saints people pray to???
(Bible doesn't tell you to pray to saints....it tells you to pray to God) thats peganism.....worshiping a image
theres loads of things i could say that goes on and on about this....
but not all Churches that consider themselves Christians are like are corrupt as this church....lol

& now im gonna play in the church a lot more in resistance (which is FAKE) (& now that i know what it is). Because really if they never went public with this I wouldn't have known its a real place

how can you call them sick and demand it be taken from the shelves and banned, then say if they give them a cut off the money (as a so called donation) then they can carry on..
they are only in it for a slice off the money.. if they were to try and sue "Sony" they wouldnt have a leg to stand on the game is great, it is a fictatious game and is harming no-one, just like all the other games out there with violence, drugs, corruption, etc.. its a game
"GET OVER YOURSELF"
well im off to the playstion web to shoot a few more enemys online in the manchester cathedral level.(its great)
Well done SCEE, keep those games coming...

I live in Manchester and am not particularly bothered about them using Manchester as one of the main stages of combat because it is kinda putting us on the maps.
The arguments that the church is making is that Sony has besmirched the church by waging war inside one, although the kind of donations they are requesting are rather rediculous, the purpose behind their request is valid and I wish people would give this a bit more understanding before jumping the gun and calling the church a whole load more names.

they are succeeding because the main goal is to give Sony a BAD REPUTATION.
bluray coating, security software and this 3d graphical england church all these are part of the conspiracy to take down Sony. prepare yourselves people, sony will still be bombarded by bogus accusations. its up to the wise public to notice such BS

Church is only bringing this on themselves, i never thought about the church as a fighting place anyway. In what way is this church in the game poisoning children?
Three words: They want money.
Its apparent just looking at the article. LMFAO, i mean a "donation". LOL Man, this is hilarious. I hope they take legal action so i can see the result. "ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE - CHURCH LOSES LAWSUIT AGAINST SONY!"

If anything, they should put a extra multiplayer game for R:FoM on PSN, where you have to hunt the pope down, then blast him with your Augers. =D

Wow! I never thought you would stoop so low! I seem to remember you taking potshots at Quixand for some to-and-fro between him/her and some other XBox fanboys.
To date, I've called you out questioning your integrity (and bias concerning the 360 and PS3) and so far you've failed to respond even once.
Do you just keep searching this website for any news of PS3 just to add your own 2 cents (which, now, in my opinion are worthless) just because you grudge your inability to get a PS3, or are you really (as some readers on this website accuse you of) a Microsoft-paid hack who earns his/her salary by bashing/bad-mouthing PS3 articles?
If you have any integrity (or guts), come out and answer these questions.
Regards,
MTK
