Ó

ChristalyneThis one should put an end to all the senseless stereotyping women get across the gaming industry/community. We all know girl gamers exist and sadly, some wayward individuals think that they are only good as booth babes. There's one  very crooked thinking existing in the gaming world - girl gamers are all geeks and ugly.

Well, not Christalyne. A little more than one year ago, she went head-to-head against the famous Jonathan "Fatal1ty" Wendel at QuakeCon. While she didn't win, she currently holds the record of getting the highest score against the guy. Aside from that, she has always been a staple at various tournaments all around the country. The catch? She is just eight years old.

Actually, Christalyne was influenced by her parents who themselves are gamers as well. Her mother, for instance, was once part of the all-female development team Artemis Software and gaming clan QGirlz. Her father on the other hand, lead Quake 4 mod, Delta CTF.

Her mother has always maintained that FPS games are not all about violence. She explained, "they recognize the combat in FPS games, like Quake, in the same manner as a board game like chess. It isn't depicting violence, it is a game of strategy." Quite remarkably, Christalyne only spends three to five hours a day playing videogames. She spends most of her time writing storylines for games she plans to develop in the future.

To date, she already had accomplished three unique IPs and is working on some more. Her mother, lastly, maintains that she will support Christalyne if she wants to become a developer or even a pro gamer in the future.

Comparing Quake to Chess is IDIOTIC Chess does not show blood or you are not shooting.

You don't see anyone going to schools and killing people with chess pieces Quake is considered a violent game.

My daughter is 8 years old and she would beat this girl with 1 hand tied behind her back and 1 eye closed!

anyone ever play a computer chess game. many of them ad fight scenes with gore. not that gore makes a violent game it just ads to it.

And aside from that. Chess is all about strategy. and you need a good strategy to get through any FPS game. cause charging up and shooting dosn't always work. especially if they have the bigger gun.

and personally i find this amazing for her to be only 8 years old. really great story and i wish the best of luck to her. \

I think that it is sad that such a good looking girl has to be molded into a geek at such a young age.....

What have people come to be, How dare you even consider Stating any comment (unless you can Praise) that is even remotely degrading.

Good for the Parents That stand with their Child(ren) in such a supportive and involved role.

If you are a Childless Person then just Shutup for you have no experiance nor intelligence to comprehend what was/is said.

If you are a Parent, Then Get involved with Your children

for time does not stand still.

I commend the Parents of Christalyne, You are What Kids look to in a parent...I Know, I have 4 gamers, though not as intense We play together via lan, Now if I could only convince my wife..........................

Hey everyone. I searched myself on the internet just because I was curious what was on here. Then I found this article.

To all of you that think that comparing Chess to Quake is stupid, well you know, its about the strategy of the game. I didn't mean what you see in it. For the Guest who said they had a 8 year old daughter that plays, even though this was in 2007, I would still love to play against her. :)

And for all of those that complimented me: Thanks, haha. =] I still love to play today (I play as Starbuck BTW).

See you in game!

And I did not throw my life away! I am a writer and I am in 9th grade. I have paid lots of attention to my school work and was allowed to skip ahead. Even though I love gaming, it is not the only thing I do. And for the guy who said it was sad such a beautiful girl was modeled into gaming, well you know.. I love to play it and it is tons of fun. But as I have said before, its not the only thing I do.
