Sony is kind of known for its tasteless and sometimes crude ads. The more controversial it is, the better they seem to think it is. In fact, we almost expect them to pull off something that would shock civil sensibilities. And so here we are, with yet another attention-grabbing, gasp-inducing, peace-disturbing images from Sony, in promotion of PlayStation 3 in Chile.

That picture above shows a modern day gamer donating blood to what looks like a WWII soldier on the other bed. Thing is, it's not just a soldier -- it's a Nazi soldier. Now, those of you who are well-acquainted with history will recognize this image as depicting the German field marshal, Erwin Rommel, who was well known for his humane treatment of prisoners of war, as well as for his refusal to participate in the killing of Jewish civilians.

Then again, I don't think most of us are that well-acquainted with this part of history, and so the initial stigma of recognizing the soldier as just being a Nazi one rings out profoundly more than the story behind Erwin Rommel's person.

And they don't stop there, no sirree. he second ad you see above shows another modern-day gamer donating this time not his blood, but his beating heart. Of course, the donation is given to another historical figure, no less than Joan of Arc herself.

The ads were created by major Chilean ad firm, BBDO.

The only thing I can get out of it is that you need to sell body parts to be able to afford a ps3... not a good message to be putting out there

Sony never, EVER, fails to create weird-ass ads. Even if they're abstract as hell, they have this charm to them.

Who remembers Polygon Man from the PS1 days? He was before Crash and Spyro became the quasi-mascots for the system. Parents reported that their kids had nightmares because of the way he looked (a floating head that was spiky as hell) so he was pulled.

nice to see someone actually gets it.

why dont people have backbones nowadays, everything is a controversy

» Polygon Man

It also didn't help that those ads stated that the Playstation was "more powerful than God."

And THAT right there is something only a pothead would say.

makes sense if you're not a complete dumb-a$$. I'm a pothead, and proud of it. I guess I would be a better person if I drank alcohol or did prescription drugs everyday. People against weed should put their efforts into railing against substances that kill people, not just makes them laugh or sleep.

» Datnizzle HAS HIT THE FRIGGIN NAIL ON THE HEAD

everybody looks down on pot smokers (yes i used to be one)

yet alcoholics do what they do legally, and if they do stuff under the influence like drive, they could and DO kill people.

the double standards in todays society is amazing.

if alcohol was illegal and pot was legal.

the world would be a better, safer place.

» WTF!?!?!?!?!

Both of you are idiots.

People look DOWN on pot AND alcohol abuse AND all other drug use. Not just potheads. But because you ARE potheads and always will be you feel the need to DEFEND pot.

Someone high on pot killed someone close to me.

So potheads can go f@cuking kill themselves for all I care. I wish they would all die.

Substance abuse is SUBSTANCE ABUSE, no matter what the substance is.

"not just makes them laugh or sleep."

The fact that you think that is proof alone that you are an ignorant fool.
