Terrain has its advantages and disadvantages. Choosing higher ground for example is better for ambush, defense, and sniping. So what if you can change the terrain to your advantage? That exact premise can be found in LucasArt's upcoming videogame called Fracture.

In game, Terrain Deformation is a technology used for warfare to reshape the earth for strategic advantage. The year is 2090, and you play the part of demolition expert Mason Briggs. In the Fracture trailer, we see Briggs going around throwing some cool looking grenades. Okay, so they look normal enough, but the effects are not just the ear-splitting explosion and shrapnel. We see the effects of the Vortex grenades as it creates a whirlwind that sucks anything within an area into it.

Also, we get a sneak peek into the Tectonic grenades which literally raises the ground on the detonation area. Briggs also shows us that he can make doors for himself with them grenades, which made us wonder what the Rocket Launcher Alt-Fire can do. And there's that big rock boulder he launches on enemies (reminds us of Indiana Jones somewhat).

Fracture from Day 1 Studios and the makers of Star Wars is set to hit next gen (PlayStation3 and Xbox360) summer of this year. You can check out the video - which by the way was uploaded by drsopa from YouTube. Enjoy!

looks cool. LucasArts is defiently moving forward when it comes to physics in games (they are also using the new ragdoll AI and life-like destructive items in the new star wars game, cant remember what they are called)

Cant wait till other developers follow and bring some real next-gen physics and AI.

» umm

that game looks pretty dumb guys... Running around moving dirt? Yah, it looks clean, with interesting physics, but seriously.. it's a new genre, FPD first person digger.... I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that it'll tank, pretty bad.

» Hmm...

Not sure how adding terrain deormation to an FPS makes it dumb.

You do realize that this is probably only one of the many new gameplay elements this game will bring to the table....and if you really want to I am sure you can still play it like an old-skool shooter....just you won't be as effective...

I personally think it looks super tight...
