There they are.Sony has recently announced at the Consumer Electronics Show that they have so far already managed to ship a million PS3s to North America since its launch in November 2006. However, it has been noted by the Associated Press that this figure is still only half of the 2 million PS3s that Sony had hoped to ship out by the end of 2006.

In any case, some have attributed this to the fact that the PS3's release has been moved from the Spring release they originally intended. That, on top of low numbers of production, no thanks to glitches with blue laser diodes.

On this occasion though, Dave Karraker was a good sport, and when he was asked if Sony was concerned that their competitors are selling more units, he replies, "Are we worried about strong sales of the Wii or Xbox 360? Not really ... It was a great year for the industry overall. With the tide all ships rise."

Amen.

Here's a story for you guys

http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/top/ps3-launch-outsells-xbox-360-launch-226742.php At that link you'll see that.... - The PS3 launch has out sold the XBox 360's launch - This is the fastest selling Sony console ever - Supplies are way up, which is why more are available to buy. Since the PSOne and PS2 have the top two console records for sales, this means the PS3 is in good shape despite the negative news and the success of the cheaper Wii.

M$ might have just been owned..

more than 360, more than PSone, more than PS2. and people still complain about the price lmao

Your talking like everyone expected the 360 launch to do better...

That would be stupid. After being the top brand for two generations ofcourse it's going to have enough support to be able to beat an XBox launch. The thing is, now demand is calming down because of the launch rush receding, and a steady supply on shelves, they need to keep the demand.

wow

As long as the momentum keeps up and the great games start coming, we have our console war winner right here.

Idiot

The 360 sold 1M WORLDWIDE by the end of 2K5, and the PS3 is at about 1.4M worldwide (Japan has 400K), so the PS3 sold 400K more than the 360 worldwide.

Yea, so whats an Xbox again? I forgot...

Joking, but seriously, Microsoft is gonna have to do better if they plan to stay on top. The Wii is soon going to catch up to Xbox with the PS3 not far behind... If the PS3 has sold over 1 million (probably around 2 million) worlwide, WITH: a $500-600 price tag, shortages, bad press, lack of must have games (besides Resistance great game btw), can you just imagine how it will sell when games like MGS4, GTA4, GT5, Warhawk, F1, and more, are released? If that wasn't enough, you have the possiblity of price drops as the Blu-Ray format picks up more speed, and becomes cheaper, I would place bets that the PS3 will be at least $100 cheaper by this holiday season, thats $400-$500 after summer, along with releases of some of the games stated above. 2007 is gonna be one of the best years for videogames, not only for the PS3 but for the Wii and 360 thanks to releases like Halo 3, SSB, and more... Anyone care to dissagree?

It's surprising

It's surprising to know that they have actually sold about 400K more than the 360 did, so it looks like the production issues have been resolved. 360 Jan. 1st, 2006 1M sold PS3 Jan. 1st, 2007 1.4M sold (1M U.S. 400K Japan)

i do

yeah.. i wouldn't say the PS3 is catching up to the 360, since there have been more 360's sold since the PS3 launch than PS3's, and it doesnt even have the demand/hype of a newly launched system.
by - 2007-01-08 23:42:16
That's right asif

It's Sony who have to do better Jettic, not Microsoft. Since the PS3 will have to overtake the 360 in monthly sales by quite a margin if it's to overtake the 360 in the market.

It's Sony who have to do better they are the one's who have to catch up

Just forget about Bluray drive and hdtv drive most gamers don't care about them (hardly anyone used their PS2 or Xbox1 to play DVDs and bought a dedicated DVD player so why should it be any different now?) Wii will not catch the 360 now that Christmas is over let's just watch over the next few months, the 360 and PS3 both have very powerful hardware, the Wii has a novelty joypad thing, novelty Eyetoy type games and much less power so give it 3 months and see how many Wii owners will still be wanting to swing that pad around whilst seeing those big AAA titles soon on 360 and later on PS3(though most of the PS3 releases someone listed above i.e "MGS4, GTA4, GT5" look to be just old rehashed PS1 games). So I expect there will be most demand for the 360 overall just looking at the huge amount of AAA titles being between now and March.

SHIPPED AND SOLD ARE TWO DIFFERENT THINGS

Sorry but I may be missing something here but does it not say "SHIPPED" in the title?. Shipped and sold are two different things altogether.
