Capcom's decision to make Devil May Cry 4 multiplatform explained

Hiroyuki Kobayashi, producer of Devil May Cry 4 has finally given his two cents on the issue regarding DMC4's move from being a PS3 exclusive to a multiplatform title, as reported by Famitsu Xbox 360. He has this to say about the controversial decision:

Devil May Cry is an extremely strong name overseas...so there was of course the business decision that we couldn't exclude the Xbox 360. We're using an engine called Framework for development, and it's extremely easy to have a multiplatform strategy including the PC. You can say that Devil May Cry 4 is the first such offering. With the increase in platforms, we have the chance of more people being able to play the game, so we're also happy as developers.

As for DMC4 being better on either Xbox 360 or PS3, Kobayashi says that this shouldn't be an issue.

The content will be exactly the same. Regardless of which one you buy, you will be able to get the same enjoyment. What's different is perhaps the shape of the controller and graphic peculiarities for each hardware. We wanted to avoid arguments about which one is better.

When asked about DMC4's completion, Kobayashi said that they are doing well but admitted that they had encountered some problems since this is the first time that he and his team handled next generation hardware development. "Clearing those is difficult," he laughed, and added that were it to be released for the PS2, DMC4 would have been finished already. Making the game run at 60 frames per second was also one of the obstacles the developing team had to face.

While he cannot give a release date yet, Kobayashi said that there will be an improved version of the DMC4 demo for this September's Tokyo Game Show.

Well one thing is for sure, Sony will absolutely hate this. They always insist they want developers to include stuff into thier games that doesn't appear on any other platform - Spiderman3 is one such example of extra tacked on gameplay to keep the Sony people happy.

learn how to type. PS3 has its disadvantages for the game

1) Incredibly slow load time

2) Hard drive space probably neccessary for install before playing the game to attempt to minimilize load time

3) No rumble, sixaxis would be good for what? Shaking off enemies???? It seems thats all the sixaxis is used for minus racing/flying games.

Elite has HDMI, some of us have opted to buy the elite over the standard version so for us, HDMI is not an issue. If its an issue for you then seek help. The 360 is louder but thats pretty much it, and if your like me and you dont play your games on mute than you do not notice the sound of anything except the game that your playing... i can't even hear my wife yapping when I'm playing let alone my 360.

Sony owns the right to the movies the game was based on, that's the reason sony wanted extra content. Nintendo is more crazy about exclusive content, remember mario on nba jam or street, I don't have a gamecube, but they always like to add something different.

Or they could put the entire 360 game on one blu-ray twice, that would cut load times as well.

The only problem ps3 fans should have with the game going multi-platform is that it may be shorter than if was on just the ps3. The developers probably didn't make the game to take advantage of the extra space on a blu-ray, if they didn't it would be stupid not to put it on other systems to make more money.

This is a multiplatform game and it is in the 360 so.. thats why they are here... and yes.. I hate the people saying things before they come out... and for people that are saying about the HDMI well.. u don't have your console with the HDMI... ok.. isn't a wow of difference but is a difference in sound and colours... is not a lot of difference but u are the kinds of guy that are trying to viw the difference of a game between the two platforms in the screenshots... anyway.. they are saying it will have the same gameplay and thet say that they don't like the sixaxis so I guess the will not put it in the game perse... anyway obviously it will not make people buy a console for this game because is multiplatform... and the 360 had more than a year, let the ps3 grow up... every system have there cons and pros

MS got MEtal GEar because konami wanted them to $have it. THe developer, from what I've heard is not too happy with M$, I doubt you will get MGS4. It was made to take advantage of blu-ray and the ps3, it probably wouldn't fit on a dvd9, That will probably be the only reason, in the end, it dosen't come to the 360.

MGS has been stated to NOT be for the 360 by Kojima himself. So if he feels like making himself look like a fool by lying to the public then you will have it. But if he has any dignity it won't. Now, the PS3 version will be superior due to the fact that it is being made on the PS3 and ported to 360. If it were the other way around, then the PS3 version would suck like all the other multiplatform ports. Take a look at folklore and then look at any 360 game. Folklore beats them hands down because it was designed on the PS3. You can flame me all you want, I don't care. The proof will come when the game is released.

ok its cool that capcom wants more money and more people playing their games, but how come they take sony exclusives and make them multi-platform and not from m$. i mean if popularity was the case then I wanna play dead rising and lost planet on my ps3. thats the only way you can convince me that its about popularity. other then that I think that its something more. in the end i think that all the third party games will endup on every system and eveything will depend on the first party. sony and nintendo both have a better first party then M$.

I can't believe I hear this question all the time...and me (Not owning a PS3...I'm getting one soon) know more about this question....

1. The PS3 is HARD to develope for...thats a fact

2. Why spend all that money, to multi-platform when NO ONE will buy your games...

you see, theres not enough PS3 owners...Thats why....

360 and games are selling like hotcakes here in the US....thats another fact...this business is about making money, and Developers would rather make a game on a system thats easier and have a high potential of making MORE profit.

What was your point again? Excess bloom and brightness is better lighting? Brighter is not better. Realism is lighting that works like real life. Subtle shades look more realistic to me.

Oblivion did NOT have an extra year to develop. They didn't start to work on a PS3 version the same time that they started the 360 version. They took a finished game and changed a few textures, improved the lighting, reduced the load times, and added a couple of extra quests. If you really think that they had a team working on a finished game for an entire year to port it to the PS3 then you are crazy.

As of right now the only thing that you have are guesses and ideas there is nothing in this article to prove either.

BTW, I am folding protein. Why aren't you?

Oblivion is more interesting than Folklore to me, and a lot of people werent impressed with the demo. Flying around and breathing fire gets old in like 2 minutes. And Oblivion was a close to launch game for both consoles. The textures on Lair hurt my eyes. eh, who cares.

ok but the excuse that capcom used is pritty much popularity. i know that theres about 10mil xbox fans or owners out there but theres also almost 4mil ps3 fans/owners out there. lets say everybody that owns one of those consoles goes and buys lost planet that could be about 14 mil people that gets that game.that 4 mil doesnt add much more to that 10 mil but its still popularity and money. (what am I saying?) 4 mil is still alot of people and money. M$ can have DMC but i want lost planet and deadrising on ps3. i really dont care what 3rd party game goes multiplatform. sony still has its strong first party.

Since I bother my self to write here let me say few small things about Microsoft and you Xbox fan boys. First I do not believe many of the people ho write here as Sony fan boys and say few stupid things are not really Sony fan boy. They are wii and Xbox fan boys a group of boys with ages from 9 to 20 that can’t afford a Ps3. And the reason is no older person will write so many stupid things, and only a child will do it. And a child can’t afford to pay for a Ps3 on less the parents buy it for them. and right now about 89% of the owner’s of a Ps3 are ages from 21 to 40`s. I am 24 year old and I grew up with Nintendo, Sega and Sony. And I like more Sony because of the good memory I had with the Ps1 with FF7, Resident Evil 2, Metal gear and more, and Ps2 with Grand Theft auto 3, Grand turismo, FF10, DMC and more.

Now Microsoft is a company base on lie stilling and buying their competition out. That why I don’t like them. Microsoft makes billions of dollars, and they are not satisfied with all that money, and in the field of computers software they are the king. And they want to be in the others field as well. Microsoft possesses footholds in other markets; with assets such as the MSNBC cable television network, the MSN Internet portal, and the Microsoft Encarta multimedia encyclopedia. The company also markets both computer hardware products such as the Microsoft mouse as well as home entertainment products such as the Xbox, Xbox 360, Zune Mp3 Players, MSN TV and HD-DVD with Toshiba.

Now I bet that Microsoft saw that Sony is in a weak spot not selling to many Ps3. and took the opportunity and pay the company’s that had games only for the Ps3 to make them Multiplatform. But why call a game Multiplatform when is only going to the xbox360 and not the Wii. And please all of you xbox fan boys please respond to that question; Why not make this game for the Wii. and please do not say because of the graphics.

Anyway, at least now the x360 guys/girls will also be able to play this nice game :D. It would be cool to have online servers that could connects x360s and PS3s, we'd double the people on the net!

And we could find wich controller is better (I love the playstation controller more than any other controllers, that's for sure, but is it the best? we could see)

You will never shut a fanboy up. They have to boast how good their system is to justify spending their money on it and convince themselves they made the right choice, and therefore convince others they are right.

The reason why games go mulitiplatform is money. As eash generation of games costs more to produce, the companies have to try to recover more money. They do this by either going multi-platform or getting a large amount of $$ to keep it on one platform.

I have a 360, a great machine, but noisy. I got one because all my friends had one and can play online together. The Playstation is a great machine but I can only afford 1. I will be able to play DMC4 without needeing to purchase a PS3, great. On the otherhand, if GOW went to the PS3, great they could see what a great game it is.
