Capcom says no to Street Fighter IV character DLC; wants to preserve core game |
Ó
While all you Street Fighter IV (PS3, Xbox 360)fans can expect more DLCs like the previously released Championship mode, and the costumes, you will, unfortunately, NOT be getting new characters for the game. This was according to Capcom's Community Manager himself, Seth Killian.According to Killian, there are no plans for additional DLC right now because: "We want the core game to be a completely functional package, and character DLC could split the user-base."
It will be remembered that back in February of this year, Capcom's Yoshinoro Ono gave out a spark of hope for Dee-Jay and T.Hawk's fans that they might be able to make it in the SFIV roster after all -- it will all just depend on how much clamor Capcom will get from the fans for these two characters.
With Killian's pronouncements, however, that hope just got much more unlikely to happen. Still, maybe if you wish hard enough for it?

Honestly. DLC is what could keep a fighter relevant in this age of gaming! People have their favorites from the past and A LOT of them didn't make it into the final game... why continue to screw those fans over by denying them the characters as DLC???
RETARDED!
Core game my ass. They just want to make a sequel and make more money. You know what Capcom f*** you.
Yeah! I'm with ya brother!
Honestly, couldn't they have thought of anything better?
As already mentioned above, this IS dumb!
Like Burnout Paradise, an overall game update could include all cars (or in this case, characters), then we just buy unlock keys. That way, we don't have to own a character to fight against him/her/it, which wouldn't split the user-base up.
I presume this is how the extra costumes work anyway!?
Sort it out Capcom!
Also, does anyone know if SFIV will ever be available on the Live/PS network as a fully downloadable game... again, like Burnout?
I love SFIV but I certainly don't care for any additional characters. It's got plenty as it is. And Dee Jay and T.Hawk were among the most useless and dull SF characters of all time so I'm glad they weren't in it. Hell, too many characters and the game just ends up being a mess (like the travesty that is the ultra awful Marvel Vs Capcom 2)
All the great Street Fighters are already in the game anyways.
I'd rather spend 60$ on a SF5 coming out like, middle of next year hot on the heels of SF4 with new stuff than have them spend too much time on SF4 DLC. They could right the wrongs in story of SF3 (great game but the characters were testicles) if they wanted to.
That said, I still think there's a chance to get DLC characters, you just need fans to show they want it. Thats how Capcom has worked since the beginning of time. The fans say "Do it" and Capcom says "If it please you". I don't think they should not produce any DLC, but if I'm given the choice between a new game and DLC for a current one I'd want the new game.
As for DLC, I think they should bring in a world tour mode (plus levels) and a tag team mode. That'd be orgasmic. I never liked Deejay anyway.
Well, about FREE DLC ? Nobody would be left out then.
Boo them!
I have to agree with Capcom on this one. If you look at Rockband, it is often very difficult and almost near impossible to get a four player game because SOOO many people are missing the DLC. It introduces a real problem as there will be lots of going back to the lobby. Warhawk did a nice job of separating who had what DLC, but unless Capcom incorporates a similar server scheme of flagging DLC required games, I'd say avoid it.
Burnout has everything on disc aside from the new stuff. I'd imagine DLC cars are just swapped for a stock car of the same class on the screen of the users missing the DLC.
