Capcom out to strengthen European stronghold |

Capcom is hugely popular with the Japanese and North American markets. But why stop there when they can garner more followings from Europe as well? This is precisely why Capcom has teamed up with European development teams to create new IPs. Says Mark Beaumont, executive VP of North America and Europe in an exclusive interview with GamesIndustry.Biz, "We're looking to expand our business by creating Western content above and beyond what's being created in Japan." Not only that, but they are also insisting on creating the European division as an autonomous one.
While they are indeed focusing their efforts into growing as an entity, they are also looking at it within the context of the European territory. They are also determined to have some more original content for the next-gen consoles that will necessarily help them expand into new genres that are beyond the stereotype of what a Capcom game is.
"As we look at new genres for Capcom and other products we want to create, we'll be looking to work with developers who have really strong skills and a track record in creating that kind of content." In fact, they have already started planning on what they'll be doing for 2008 as early as now.
"...We'll have new versions of existing franchises and new titles that are original IP. We're really starting to ramp things up and become that much more significant in the marketplace."
Capcom is responsible for the gaming hits Resident Evil and Devil May Cry, among a long list of other successful titles.
