Capcom: graphical comparison of Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix

If you notice how the two screenshots were rendered above, you'll admit there are some plain differences between them which makes one stand out more than the other. The two images were taken from the original and revised key frames of Capcom's Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, and shows the startling changes done to make the revised version of this classic fighting game.

Capcom explained that they had to do a lot of downsizing in terms of the key frames used by Japanese art studio Udon. Based on the original art style, around 6 to 8 tones were used to animate the initial build. However, due to space constraints and other animation problems, the new shades had to be cut down to 4 tones just to fit everything in accordingly.

There was also a need to reboot the whole art pipeline and start everything from scratch. The advantages of this were seen in the new features that Capcom was able to fit into the game, as well as further refining and testing the features initially included in the upcoming title.

Just to give everyone an idea of what's to come, Capcom gave a sneak peek at some of the features that we'll all be seeing once the game goes live:

8-man Tournament Mode. This has been especially challenging with the new netcode
Both Remixed and Classic music
Hit Box Display

The discussion ended with the file size issue discussed about the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 versions of the game. Capcom explained that with development going smoothly, the developers assured everyone that all the planned features will make it onto the Xbox 360 platform thanks to the help from the people at Microsoft.

All in all, everything is looking good for this pimped up version of the classic Street Fighter title. We'll be sure to keep our eye out for more tidbits regarding the game, so keep coming back to this spot for more updates.

I'm sorry but Udon fail miserably at this job. Look at Ryu's bicep. It wraps around to the back of his arm. This company has no idea what it's doing when it comes to anatomy, stylized or not, they have made some ridiculous mistakes with this artwork. And it's such a shame as they had a pretty good foundation to work from.

From what I can see, the clothes had definitely been improved, but when it comes to the skin and muscles, it's clear that Capcom should have hired somebody else for the job.

It's an XBLA/PSN game so it's capped to a small size on Xbox (150MB).

...about the anatomy thing. Did they think we wouldn't realize that in redrawing the sprites you're basically tracing them, and felt they needed to make it look like they weren't copying it into higher resolution? We're left screwed over because of the sh1tyness that is the 360. ;) Why the F*** do they have a 150mb limit on games? THATS RETARDED!

I want my GD tones back UDON! They hell with optimizing it for the 360, GIVE ME QUALITY!

"Speaking with GameSpot, a Capcom representative confirmed that Microsoft has indeed slackened the limit for SSFIITHDR, and also noted that Bionic Commando Rearmed will also not be subjected to the 150MB XBLA file-size limit...

...a Microsoft representative told GameSpot. "We will continue to work closely with our partners to bring the best games to Xbox Live Arcade, and if a game warrants a file size limit exception, we will provide one on a case by case basis."
