I wonder if there are any zombie pandas in the game...

Guess I spoke too soon. Apparently, the multiplayer mode for Capcom's Dead Rising 2 (Xbox 360, PS3, PC) has not yet been confirmed. Officially, at least.

According to Joystiq, Mental Mill's Laura Scholl misspoke when she mentioned the word "multiplayer" during a Dead Rising 2 panel at GDC 09. Mental Mill's Loretta Stevens clarified that Ms. Scholl meant "multiplatform". Ms. Scholl also gave IGN a clarification:

In my 'During the Dead Rising 2' presentation at GDC this past Friday, while I was describing how Blue Castle is using mental mill technology in character development, I mistakenly referred to the game as multiplayer instead of multiplatform. I apologize for the confusion.

Chris Kramer at Capcom was also asked about the multiplayer brouhaha, but he declined to shed any light on it, instead pointing out that they haven't announced much about the game at this point. Kramer also added that he "[believes] what one person says about this project, Inafune-san. I don't know anything about this middleware provider."

Personally, I still think that the game's going to get some form of multiplayer, at least. I wouldn't put it past Capcom to release it as paid DLC either.
