Rumor confirmed - Obsidian Entertainment has finally announced through their official forums that the Aliens RPG has indeed been canned. For those who've been trying to get more updates on the matter, then this ought to be the final nail on that coffin.
Confirmation comes from Obsidian Entertainment forum admin The Guildmaster:
Rumors have circled around a bit regarding the fate of the Aliens role playing game that Obsidian and SEGA had been working on. Unfortunately, it is true that we are no longer working on the game, and we wanted to finally announce that officially to everyone who has been following its development. WeÂ’re going to keep this forum up for another week for archival purposes and to allow you guys to finish up any open threads, and then we will shut it down since it is no longer a product that is in development.
The earliest "confirmation" came late February, when ex-designer David Kondor's online CV indicated a "canceled third-person action Aliens RPG." Four months later, we now have word from the developers themselves.

Might've been cool, but kinda unrealistic to begin with. How would an Aliens RPG work anyway? The Aliens universe is not exactly a perfect fit for an RPG
O well, the games Gearbox is making with the franchise look pretty cool. Don't think this'll be missed too much
Forgot that AVP is being made by Rebellion, not Gearbox. Gearbox has one Aliens game, Colonial Marines.
